Why we exist

Radcliffe First is a group of Radcliffe residents who are working hard to correct the neglect and mismanagement of resources from local government services. Although Radcliffe First is a Political Party, we are not 'Career' politicians, we are just like you! Local people from all walks of life, different faiths and political backgrounds, however, we all have one thing in common: we w

ant to create more opportunities and investment in our community that will enrich the lives of our families, friends and neighbours. Our initial aim was to get Bury Council to start listening to the opinions of Radcliffe people. We are growing from strength to strength and we will continue to seek fairness and redress for the town and for the people of Radcliffe

Our aims and objectives are rooted in common sense. Bury council does not understand our town therefore cannot value what it cannot understand. Radcliffe First are from all political persuasions with a single aim: ‘To support our community and seek a fairer deal from Bury Council.’

This is not just a BIG IDEA with no substance behind it. This is a group full of practical people with sleeves rolled up, doing the graft in order to make positive changes locally and it’s having an impact. Our first Radcliffe councillor, James Mason, was elected in May 2019 and since then we have seen the group members increase dramatically. We now have three Councillors representing Radcliffe within Bury Council, James Mason & Carol Birchmore (Radcliffe East) with Mike Smith (Radcliffe West) all making exceptional progress and are highly respected within the community. The pride and commitment of our members has inspired dozens of other communities, that have also been forgotten, to start their own independent parties and we receive constant praise for our efforts. Committee members host regular events inviting groups of residents to join us picking up litter in their spare time, using personal resources to secure and remove illegal fly tipping. It’s a truly inspirational movement and we welcome you to get involved. Sometimes we get asked, “Why would you do that? Why spend time in the cold wind and rain, picking up other people’s litter?”

Well, living our lives in this community there is one thing we have learned; people only take you as seriously as you take yourself. For us, that means never compromising on the quality of life. We may not get everything we want, but we will strive to create a neighbourhood we love to live in, feel safe in and see our people thrive in. We live here and want to feel proud that our work inspires children, motivates teenagers, and improves the lives of adults from all backgrounds...otherwise - what’s the point? We are saddened to hear about the horrific stabbings in Golders Green targeting the Jewish community.

There is no place for antisemitism, hatred, or violence. Everyone deserves to live safely, without fear for who they are, what they believe or their heritage.

Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and all those affected. As a party, we stand unequivocally in solidarity with our local Jewish community and reaffirm our commitment to respect, dignity, and compassion for all.

The next local elections here in Bury takes place on May 7th, 2026.

It is crucial to reflect on the power we hold as voters and the impact our choices can make in our communities.

In 2024 many of us cast our votes for national change, fueled by hope and the desire for a brighter future. However, many of us are still waiting to see the changes we envisioned. Now is the time to turn our attention to local governance, where essential decisions affecting our daily lives are made.

Local councillors play a pivotal role in shaping our neighbourhoods, schools, and services. They are the voices that can echo our concerns and aspirations directly to the heart of decision-making. If you’re feeling disillusioned or frustrated with the pace of change at the national level, remember that the local elections are our chance to take action. It’s our moment to hold our representatives accountable and ensure they reflect our needs and priorities.

On May 7th, make your voice heard. Engage with the candidates, ask the tough questions, and understand their visions for our community. Every vote counts, and your participation is vital. Whether it’s improving local infrastructure, enhancing public services, or addressing community issues, our local councillors have the power to enact real change.

Let’s come together as a community and make our voices resonate at the local level. This is not just about picking candidates; it’s about shaping our future. So, mark your calendars, inform yourself, and most importantly, vote.

Your vote is your voice—let it be heard loud and clear. Together, we can inspire the change we seek and build the community we deserve.
