Here's a snap from this week of our very lovely Debbie reading to the children to Go All In! We're helping to make reading far more visible and FUN throughout 2026. Thanks to everyone who came along and listened, laughed and joined in - it was great to have so many little people there!

We're looking forward to these sessions every Tuesday in the summer holidays and are exciting to be hosting TWO local authors for these! More info to come ... 📚️😊

On Saturday, we hosted the awards ceremony for our Young Environmentalists Competition! This was a Rotary competition and we had support from Sir Roger Gale, Nik Mitchell from Get Wild and Thanet Earth.

Ruby Rubbish was our winning entry, a robot made entirely from recycled materials. She was cleverly designed by 10-year-old Holly to pick up litter along the roadside. Ruby Rubbish will be displayed at Monkton Nature Reserve in the bird viewing area for all visitors to admire. Thank you so much to everybody who entered this competition, we can't wait to host it again later this year!

A group from Nonington Gardening Club visited the reserve last week for an Orchid Walk & Talk and a cuppa in the Cabin Café. Winter work on our chalk grassland has improved the habitat for these lovely plants; the work was supported by the London Array (via Kent Community Foundation), Ernest Kleinwort Charitable Trust, the Chapman Charitable Trust and the Hardy Orchid Society

Here's a snap of our wonderful Dr Clive Nuttman with some of our lovely local scouts. We passed on some nest-boxes that were kindly given to us, to be used in their re-wilding area!

They've brilliantly planned and designed their space to incorporate as many habitats as possible, including, toad abodes, basking areas for reptiles, insect lodges, log piles, planting area for plants for pollinators and sunflowers!

These nest-boxes will be lovely homes for their small birds 💚
