Remember, remember the 8th. of November - come and join the clean up. No treason or plot, just teamwork and tidier streets. We'll have equipment you can use but if you can bring your own rake or broom, that will be a big help.

Council contractors will be treating weeds around the village tomorrow, 26th September. Just a reminder that if you do not want treatment applied to road and pavement edges directly outside your property please make sure any weeds have been removed. No need to chalk or do anything else.

Local MP Freddie Van Mierlo visited Goring this week, along with District and County Cllr Maggie Fillipova-Rivers to look at the local cycling infrastructure, particularly the link between Goring and Wallingford, known as The Bridleway, which currently encounters a blockage between South Stoke and Little Stoke.

Goring Parish Cllrs, Toby Thurstan and Robin Williamson took to their bikes to demonstrate the issue, pointing out the great advantages of being able to cycle without being diverted onto the high speed B4009.

If a solution can be found it would enable a 6.5 mile safe, car-free route between Goring and Wallingford, encouraging more people to cycle resulting in fewer vehicles on local roads and help in promoting Active Travel.

A reminder to Goring residents to please look at the proposals in the conservation area review. SODC welcome your views.
Proposed changes to the Goring-on-Thames Conservation Area boundary are:
• Addition of Railway Cottages to the conservation area because of historic and architectural interest.
• Addition of six properties on Manor Road to the conservation area (Querton, Grange Cottage, Rivermead, Beckett, St Mary’s and Byways) because of historic and architectural interest.
• Removal of modern houses on Elmhurst Walk from conservation area because they are not of historic and architectural interest.
• Removal of modern developments at Sloane Close and Farm Road near Tesco from the conservation area because they are not of historic and architectural interest.
• Corrections to the western boundary so that it follows the current Oxfordshire administrative boundary. This will result in the inclusion of the GII listed Streatley paddle and rymer weir within the Oxfordshire administrative area and the exclusion of parts of the Swan Hotel at Streatley and other domestic gardens which are within the administration of Berkshire.

More details on these proposed changes can be found in Section 8 of the appraisal document.

SODC are inviting your comments on the proposed changes during a four-week consultation period which runs from Wednesday 10 September until 11.59pm on Wednesday 8 October 2025.

This week Goring Parish Council has been putting the new Oxfordshire Together volunteer process into action.

The footpath along the Reading Road in Goring has been left overgrown with brambles and ivy for many months, so the council have used the "Vegetation Clearance" guidance from Oxford County Council to organize a volunteer party to do the work. In this pilot exercise the volunteers were all councillors and council staff, but in the future it is planned to include local residents as well.

The pictures show the narrow part of the foot way before and after clearance.

You can find out more about the Oxfordshire Together scheme on the OCC Highways website

If you would like to get involved in future action days or you have suggestions for areas we can improve, please get in touch with the Clerk.

On the go? Please take your recyclables home!
South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils are calling on residents to change the way they deal with litter on the go.
Up to 70 per cent of the things that are put in public litter bins could be recycled if taken home. Unfortunately, once recyclables are mixed with food waste and other rubbish in litter bins they can’t be recycled and must be thrown away.

This summer’s Take It Home campaign is delivering a clear message: — please take your empty bottles and cans home for recycling, instead of placing them into public litter bins.

On the go? Here’s what you need to know:
If you want to recycle, please take these items home and put them in your green bin instead:
· Empty cans and bottles*
· Plastic food containers*
· Newspapers and magazines
*please just give it a rinse first to ensure no mess gets in your recycling bin.
