This is in addition to highly skilled crews providing a swift and effective response to incidents ranging from road, rail, aviation and waterway accidents, to fuel and

chemical spills, collapsed buildings, large animal rescues and, of course, fires. We are happy to help, but please be mindful of the following while on our page:

🚒⚡Last week, our Newbury White Watch crew and staff from our Training Centre took part in an exercise to improve their skills when responding to a collision involving an electric vehicle (EV).

The scenario gave firefighters the opportunity to respond to an EV in thermal runaway (where the battery cell temperature has risen incredibly quickly) and practice the challenges of extricating a casualty while wearing breathing apparatus.

Training exercises like these help build confidence, strengthen operational skills and teamwork.

Today is , and a great opportunity to learn a simple first aid skill to help before emergency services arrive.

In the UK, the top causes for burns and scalds include hot drinks mugs, cooking with fat, hot fluids, and hair straighteners.

If someone does get burnt, remember to Cool, Call and Cover.
🩹Cool under running cool water for 20 minutes.
🩹Call 999, 111 or your GP.
🩹Cover the affected area with cling film.

Day 11, - Water Awareness🌊

Respect the water.

🌊Do not jump into open water, often known as ‘tombstoning’. This can cause cold water shock.
🌊Avoid swimming in open water such as rivers and lakes – there could be unseen currents and reeds underneath the surface that can pull people under.
🌊When running or walking next to the water, stay clear of the edges. Riverbanks and cliff edges may be unstable and give way.
🌊If you find yourself in trouble in the water, float to live. Do not panic and float on your back until the effects of cold water shock pass. When the cold water shock has passed, swim to the edge or call for help.
🌊If someone else is in trouble in the water, don’t enter the water yourself – even if you are a strong swimmer. Call 999 immediately and ask to speak to the fire service and ambulance. Shout to the person in the water “swim to me!”. The water can be disorientating and this can give them focus. If there are lifebelts or throw lines nearby, use them.

25 years on, we remember and honour all those affected by the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The attacks killed 2,977 people, including 343 firefighters, who gave their lives facing this catastrophe, in the service of their communities.

As a Service, we will never forget the ultimate sacrifice they made. Our thoughts are with all those affected.

Last weekend (on Sunday, 6 September), the Green Watch crew from Wokingham Road Fire Station attended the Charvil Community Fete!

Do you own a fuel-burning appliance? If yes, make sure to follow this advice:

🔥Never interrupt the air supply by blocking air vents or air bricks.
🔥Don't ‘slumber’ an appliance (unless it has been tested as safe to do so).
🔥Never store the fuel next to the appliance.
