Help us upgrade one of the vans that keeps our town fed—and our winter night shelter supported!
Day in and day out, our hardworking van is a vital lifeline across Reading. Its main mission is delivering emergency food parcels for our foodbank ReadiFood and keeping our nine local pantries stocked. Plus, from January to March every year, it pulls double duty—moving beds, bedding, and daily essentials for our winter night shelter.
To keep up with this non-stop demand, we are hoping to upgrade our van—and we're looking for local business partners to join us on the road!
Imagine your company logo traveling all over Reading every single day as a high-visibility mobile billboard. You’ll get fantastic local exposure while playing a direct, hands-on role in keeping our food delivery and shelter services running.
Why partner with us?
✔️ Daily roadside advertising across the Reading area.
✔️ Regular digital shoutouts on our social media and website.
✔️ Meaningful community PR by backing a frontline local charity.
If you would like to know more about supporting us by being one of the van sponsors, please email our CEO Andy on [email protected]. Let's make a difference in our town together! 🤝✨

💙 We’re excited to introduce Indigo, who is joining Vincent as the official mascot for A Bed For The Night!

Indigo brings warmth, comfort, and a sense of home to our guests during the coldest nights of the year. While our A Bed For The Night logo is red—symbolising the love, compassion, and passion we pour into our mission—Indigo represents the peace and tranquillity of the night.

Just as the night is never dark to God, Indigo is a gentle reminder that our guests are never alone, no matter how long the night may seem.
Indigo reflect both passionate care and peaceful rest, offering hope, dignity, and a warm welcome to every guest we serve.

Big news! As part of our 30th anniversary celebrations as a registered charity, we’ve been busy preparing a special surprise. Our precious mascot, Vincent, is a local legend, but as we all know, he’s only one bear and can’t be everywhere at once!

To help us share our message further, Vincent is being joined by five new friends, each representing one of our vital ministries. We recently showcased these new bears at our volunteer celebration event and invited our incredible team of volunteers to help name them. The bears' initials will spell out our charity's name—F-A-I-T-H—with each bear representing a different part of our work:
✨ F - Named "Faith" our main mascot bear (joining Vincent!)
✨ A - Our new ReadiStreet mascot.
✨ I - Our new Bed for the Night mascot.
✨ T - Our new ReadiFood mascot.
✨ H - Our new pantry mascot.
We plan to use these bears as we deliver outreach talks in schools and churches etc, continuing the beautiful legacy our founder, Jim McConnell, started with Vincent.
Stay tuned to our page to hear the names our volunteers and staff have selected for these new team members!

A message from Vincent our mascot.

I’m not always the loudest voice in the room — in fact, I’ve spent the last few years quietly watching from my spot on the shelf. But today, I wanted to speak to you all.
It is the greatest honour of my life to serve as your mascot, your companion, and a small reminder of comfort in difficult moments. Together, we’ve shared something truly special — offering warmth, food, care, and dignity to those who needed it most.
I’ve been held tightly in hard times, passed gently from hand to hand, and carried through moments of kindness and hope. I’ve seen tired smiles turn into real ones, and I’ve felt the strength of this charity in every act of compassion.
And even though I’m just a bear, I’ve always understood this was never just about help — it was about humanity.
As time has passed, I’ve found myself taking on a quieter role. From my place on the shelf, I’ve watched new faces, new energy, and new opportunities begin to grow. And it feels like the right moment — to let others help me carry the story forward.
To everyone who has carried me, cared for me, and shared this journey — thank you. You’ve given me a life far fuller than any teddy bear could ever expect.
I’ll still be around as there is still lots to do.
After all, once you're part of a family like ours, you're always part of the story.
With all my love,
Vincent x x

Our Severe Weather Emergency Protocol response to look after those rough sleeping has been activated. It isn’t just for when temperatures are sub-zero, and with a heat-health alert coming into effect this week, our outreach teams will be distributing water and sunscreen to people out on the street. CIRDIC at St Saviours Church and 135 Cardiiff Road Work and Life Skills Centre will welcome people who want to seek shade. St Mungo’s are also offering additional, targeted support to individuals with specific health needs who may be further impacted by current temperatures.

A massive thank you to English Martyrs for helping us by laying on such a special thank you for our Bed For The Night- bed-moving team, including a beautiful full English breakfast.

We’re so grateful to our amazing team who got up early every morning from January through to March, faithfully moving beds from venue to venue. And a huge thank you to our volunteer Jim, who coordinated this team and made sure everything ran seamlessly each and every morning.

We’re so thankful for each and every one of you! 💛
