A Bed for the Night

A Bed for the Night Reading Churches Night Shelter - Running January to March. We are currently looking for volunteers to help from Jan- Mar 2026.

If you are interested or would some information email [email protected] A Bed for the Night is a trial response by the Churches in Reading to the plight of homeless people during the winter months. We are starting with a one month trial in January 2015.

💙 Wow, you guys are amazing!

Thank you, everyone, for responding so generously to our emergency appeal for bottled water overnight. Due to your incredible response and generosity we have a large amounts being delivered today and we will have enough to support rough sleepers and vulnerable people during this period of extreme heat.

We are overwhelmed by your kindness and generosity. Thank you so, so much for helping us care for those who need it most. ❤️🙏

Our Severe Weather Emergency Protocol response to look after those rough sleeping has been activated. It isn’t just for when temperatures are sub-zero, and with a heat-health alert coming into effect this week, our outreach teams will be distributing water and sunscreen to people out on the street. CIRDIC at St Saviours Church and 135 Cardiiff Road Work and Life Skills Centre will welcome people who want to seek shade. St Mungo’s are also offering additional, targeted support to individuals with specific health needs who may be further impacted by current temperatures.

A massive thank you to English Martyrs for helping us by laying on such a special thank you for our Bed For The Night- bed-moving team, including a beautiful full English breakfast.

We’re so grateful to our amazing team who got up early every morning from January through to March, faithfully moving beds from venue to venue. And a huge thank you to our volunteer Jim, who coordinated this team and made sure everything ran seamlessly each and every morning.

We’re so thankful for each and every one of you! 💛

Bed For The Night is part of FAITH Christian Group.
We are proudly celebrating 30 years as a registered charity serving our town of Reading.
To mark this milestone, we are running a variety of fundraising campaigns throughout the year to help us continue supporting those who need us most.
If you run or own a business, or are a member of the public, and would like to support us, we would love to hear from you.
We are especially looking for donations such as products, services, experiences, gift vouchers, meal vouchers, or anything that could be used as a raffle or auction prize.

Last night marked the final night of Bed for the Night for this season.

From January to March, we’ve had the privilege of offering warmth, safety, and dignity to those who needed it most.

To our incredible volunteers and staff, you showed up, shift after shift, with kindness and compassion. Thank you.

Thank you to the venues who opened their doors, our partners who provided meals, and everyone working behind the scenes,moving beds, cooking, cleaning, organising rotas, transporting supplies, and preparing each site.

And for all the unseen work, risk assessments, paperwork, and the countless details that keep everything running safely, thank you.

To our guests—thank you for trusting us.

And to everyone who supported, prayed, and gave, you helped made this possible.

The doors may be closed at the night shelter, but our work with many of our guests still continues with our ReadiStreet team.
