We are recruiting for our next King’s Trust Team Programme in Hemel Hempstead, Stevenage/North Herts and Watford.

The programme supports 16-25 year olds who are not currently in education, employment or training, or who may lack confidence about their next steps. Participants develop new skills, gain qualifications, improve confidence and receive support into employment, education or volunteering.

A huge thank you to Hertfordshire's farming community for their support during several recent field fires.

Local farmers have provided vital water supplies to help our crews tackle incidents more effectively, demonstrating the value of our close collaboration with the National Farmers Union (NFU).

Since our partnership with the NFU began in 2022, it has continued to evolve and strengthen. As well as receiving support during emergencies, we're able to work with farmers to share advice on rural fire safety, wildfire prevention and animal rescues, helping to make our rural communities safer and more resilient.

Strong partnerships, shared expertise and a commitment to protecting Hertfordshire continue to make this collaboration a real success.

Redbourn and Markyate attended a fire in the field at the rear of Nicholls Close yesterday evening. Please ensure smokers discard of ci******es carefully, ensuring they are out, as we believe this started through a carelessly discarded cigarette.
Luckily the fire spread was quickly halted and it did not cross into adjacent fields.

Please check if you have lithium-ion batteries in any waste you are disposing of. Do not place these in general waste bins, as they can cause fires if damaged.
Please dispose of appropriately.

A refuse collection crew’s prompt action helped to prevent a fire caused by a battery placed in a waste bin from getting out of control.

They safely ejected the smouldering rubbish onto the road at Common Lane, Harpenden, while warning motorists and pedestrians to stay clear. The Fire Service was called to extinguish the blaze.

It is believed the cause was a battery within electrical equipment which had been disposed of incorrectly in a household waste bin.

Lithium-ion batteries are a major waste disposal hazard as they can spark a fire when crushed by a bin lorry’s compactor or blades.
