Looking to cool off? 🌊☀️
With warm temperatures continuing, it’s important to stay safe around water.
Open water such as rivers and lakes can contain hidden hazards, including debris, unpredictable currents, and sudden changes in depth. Even on the hottest days, the water can remain surprisingly cold.
For a safer way to enjoy the water, why not visit one of the county’s organised venues? From public swimming pools and splash parks to watersports centres, there are plenty of great options to help you stay cool.

With the warm temperatures this bank holiday weekend, our rivers and lakes stay surprisingly cold. That shock can hit your body hard — making it suddenly difficult to swim or even breathe properly.

If you’re getting into the water, don’t jump in. Take it slow, give your body time to adjust, and stay in control.

And if you ever accidentally fall in:
➡️ Fight the urge to panic
➡️ Tilt your head back
➡️ Spread your arms and legs
➡️ Float… breathe… and regain control

Be Water Aware.

Heading to the coast this weekend or over half term? Stay safe in the water.
You don’t have to be swimming or surfing to get into trouble — hidden hazards can catch anyone out. If you find yourself struggling in the water, remember: Float to Live.

Water can be unpredictable. Always keep a close eye on children near water, even for a moment. Cold water shock can affect anyone’s ability to swim — and it can happen in summer as well as winter.

⚠️ A resident has reported receiving an email claiming they will have a home visit to check smoke alarms, with a £500 charge for homes without a working alarm.
This is a scam and we would never charge to carry out a home fire safety visit.

Here’s how you can stay safe on your local routes:

Today we join fire services across the world in marking Firefighters Memorial Day.
We will be observing a minute’s silence at midday to remember those who have lost their lives in the line of duty, to recognise the courage and commitment of firefighters globally and to reflect on the sacrifices made serving our communities.
