A1085 MARSKE LANE, MARSKE EMERGENCY ROAD CLOSURE
As of 17:00 today 23rd June 2026, United Infrastructure, acting on behalf of Northumbrian Water, will be implementing a full closure of A1085 Marske Lane in both directions.

This decision has been made to ensure that the necessary works can be carried out in a safe and controlled environment for both the workforce and members of the public.

This measure follows ongoing and repeated breaches of the existing southbound closure, which has been disregarded by motorists on a significant number of occasions.

Vehicles have been observed travelling on the incorrect side of the carriageway, creating hazardous conditions, and presenting a serious and unacceptable risk to public safety.

Every effort was made to maintain partial access, with the northern side of the carriageway remaining open to allow residents to enter Marske. However, due to the persistent non-compliance and the increasing risk associated with these actions, it has become clear that a full road closure is the only effective way to manage the situation safely.

The closure is expected to remain in place for approximately two weeks, or until the works are completed. Clearly signed diversion routes will be in place to assist motorists during this period.

We appreciate that this may cause inconvenience and thank residents and road users for their understanding and cooperation during these essential works.

Policing in the heart of your neighbourhood 👮🏼‍♂️💙

This Neighbourhood Policing Week of Action 2026 – as we shine a spotlight on the vital work that our neighbourhood officers, police community support officers (PCSOs) and volunteers do to keep the public safe - we want to tell you about some excellent work by Redcar’s neighbourhood officers.

Working in conjunction with Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council and supported by Beyond Housing, they secured a three-month closure order for this house (pictured) on the town’s Ayton Drive on Friday (12th June) after submitting evidence at court of repeated nuisance, ASB and criminality.

🗣️ Redcar and East Cleveland Neighbourhoods Inspector Neil Deluce said: “Our communities across the district may have seen police and our partners increasingly turn to these orders when occupants persist in taking part in nuisance, antisocial or criminal behaviour, and they’re now an integral part of our strategy to keep our communities safe.

“They also serve as reassurance to the law-abiding majority of residents that together we will always do all we can to deal with people who constantly make life a misery for those living nearby - and as a reminder that we will NOT tolerate this kind of behaviour.

🗣️ Cllr Neil Bendelow, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods at Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, said: “I’d like to commend the police for taking this action as well as our own antisocial behaviour team and partner agencies for their supporting roles. Going to court is always a last resort and only happens after other attempts to resolve antisocial behaviour have failed. However, decent, law-abiding people deserve to live in peace in their own homes and neighbourhoods. We’ll continue to work closely with the police and others to support our residents.”
