We’ve had some brilliant weather this bank holiday weekend, unfortunately it also meant that our team of volunteers has been extremely busy attending to call outs.

We work very close to our flanking teams and all the other emergency services.

BIG thank you to our team for your commitment and giving up your time to be able to help people who needs our support.

If you even find yourself in a coastal emergency please call 999 and ask for the Coastguard. We are available 24/7.

Even on warm, sunny days, cold water can be dangerous 🥶

Entering water below 15°C can trigger an involuntary gasp for air, followed by rapid, uncontrollable breathing. If this happens in the water, it can make it difficult to keep your airway clear and increase the risk of inhaling water and drowning.

To reduce the risk:

• Check the water temperature and tide times before deciding to go in.

• Avoid swimming alone, go with others - doesn't have to always be with a group, but just having one other person there could help.

• Be seen. Wear a brightly coloured swim cap and consider using a floatation device or tow float.

• Wear a wetsuit appropriate for your activity.

• Enter the water slowly to allow your body to adjust to the temperature and help regulate your breathing.

• Know your limits; cold water shock can affect anyone, including experienced swimmers.

Tag someone you care about to remind them of these safety tips 💙

Good morning followers.
As you may be aware from other pages. That a member of the public was injured. After touching something unusual on the beach/dunes.

Our shores are filled with history, but remnants from the past can still sometimes wash up on our shores today.

If you find something on the beach that is unusual, it could be an unexploded ordnance (explosive).

What should I do if I find something that looks unusual on the beach?

While it is very rare to find unexploded ordnance on a visit to the beach, bad weather and high tides can expose these objects. It’s important to be cautious, as ordnance comes in all shapes and sizes.

If you do come across something on the beach that you’re unsure of or suspect could be unexploded ordnance, PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH IT OR MOVE IT. Call 999 and ask for the Coastguard - we will take immediate steps with the relevant partner authorities to keep people safe and ensure the item in question is disposed of correctly.

The session focused not only on supporting individuals in distress, but also on recognising and maintaining the health and wellbeing of ourselves and our colleagues when dealing with traumatic incidents.
