I AM a Redruth North councillor.
I AM opposed to Restore, their policies and position on many issues.
I AM personally affected by their policies and feel that they are not representing the whole community.
I didn’t/wouldn’t vote for a Reform candidate for many reasons but whoever I vote for is based on their values, beliefs and policies, so if that changes, I feel that they have mis-sold their position and it’s important to offer their electorate the opportunity to make a more informed decision about who represents them.
Thanks Ellie Allen for Redruth for another great informative and constructive post, it’s obviously up to you to use the voice you have, but if you’re not happy with this development please speak out.

Following Cllr Roger Tarrant’s decision to change party affiliation, as a Cornwall Councillor, a lot of residents in Redruth North are now asking what that actually means for the mandate he was elected on.
I should be clear, this isn’t my ward. I am, as you hopefully know, a Redruth Town Councillor for Redruth South. But, it’s something a lot of people across the area are talking about.
Some people may well support the change. The question is how many.
Legally, there’s no requirement for a by-election when a councillor changes party. But this has happened less than a year into a four-year term.
That’s quite a significant shift fairly early on and it raises a simple question, if there’s confidence this still reflects what most people want, why not test it?
Looking at Restore Britain’s stated objectives, there are some clear differences compared to Reform UK:
* A referendum on restoring the death penalty
* The NHS prioritising British workers and employing them over foreign staff
* Reversing recent abortion law changes and repealing assisted dying legislation
* Repealing the Gender Recognition Act and defining s*x in law as biological
People will obviously have different views on all of this. But it is a clear shift in political direction from what people originally voted for.

If people want to speak, they can:
* Turn up and use the 3-minute public participation slot
* Or email a comment or question to the Clerk or a Town Councillor to be read out
If this change in party makes you uncomfortable, or if you feel residents should have a chance to have their say, now is the time to raise it.
Personally, I do not support Restore. As a mixed race woman born and raised here, that is shaped by how some of these policies land.
But more than that, I think politics should be about giving people a sense of agency over their lives and communities, not directing blame at others. We are stronger when people feel they have a stake and a voice.
