It’s Volunteers’ Week - and we want to start by saying thank you.

Across the borough, people give their time in all sorts of ways - checking in on others, helping at community groups, supporting local charities, or just looking after the places we share.

Much of this happens quietly, but it makes a huge difference.

Last year, the council honoured 41 local heroes at the Volunteer Awards - a reminder of how many ways people give their time locally. There’s still time to nominate someone for a 2026 award as we’ve extended our deadline to 7 June!

As a council, we’re proud to support volunteering across the borough and this week we'll be sharing some volunteer stories and celebrating the people who help make our borough a better place.

✨ Art For Wellbeing is coming to Westvale Park! 🖼️

Join artist Yuki Solle for weekly creative sessions designed to support wellbeing and help you unwind. Expect a different activity each week, from watercolour to mosaic and more.

Starting from 11 June, running from 6.45pm–8.15pm at Westvale Park Academy.

These free sessions are open to Westvale Park residents, funded by developer contributions.

Your pup loves the park. So does everyone else. Please remember:

- pick up the after your pooch (any bin will do if you bag that poo)
- there are some areas where pups need to be on a lead or where access is restricted, such as playgrounds
- be mindful of other park users

🎾 🎾 Tennis court refurbishment update 🎾 🎾

We have been refurbishing our tennis courts across the borough – with new-look courts already open at Lady Neville Park, Tattenham Way Recreation Ground and Woodmansterne Recreation Ground.

Priory Park tennis courts are finished and should be open to residents later today. The new paint and lines have been applied to the courts at Memorial Park and Howard Close - and they should re-open on Monday, providing the paint has fully cured.

The refurbishment programme has been funded through the Community Infrastructure Levy (a charge that local authorities can set on new development to help fund infrastructure, facilities and services in the area).

Good news! 🏰 🛝 🤸

The refurbishment of South Park play area is now complete after an official inspection was carried out today and the play area is now open for residents to enjoy!

The play area has a new mini trim trail with slip resistant decking and recycled plastic posts, and inclusive features include a swing, spinners and a multi-activity sensory panel.

The borough’s parks and greenspaces offer lots in the way of activities for physical and mental wellbeing.
Summer’s here, get kids off screens and try out the:
🚲 pump tracks, (purpose built tracks for cycling) at Tattenham Way Recreation Ground and South Park, Sandcross Lane.
🛹 skate parks, at Priory Park and Preston Park
🏃 running track at Battlebridge or Priory Park’s Junior Park Run (Sundays at 9am)
🪨 Parkour course at Merstham Rec
