Surrey Libraries UK are celebrating their volunteers in Volunteers Week 2026.

It's Volunteers Week 2026!

Each year, Volunteers Week provides an opportunity to promote and celebrating volunteering and volunteers. This year, it's running from 1st June to 7th June.

If you are a volunteer at any of our sites across the Surrey Library service, allow us to take the time to say: THANK YOU!

If you are not a volunteer with us, but have some free time and a passion for libraries, your community or getting your hands mucky at a craft event, what's stopping you? Apply now at: https://www.surreycc.gov.uk/libraries/volunteering

[Alt Text: Image shows a group of four young volunteers in a library space, comparing notes and smiling. The space is bright and modern. The logos of both Volunteers Week and Surrey County Council are also present in two separate corners of the image. The image intends to convey Surrey Libraries' pride in its volunteers.]

Are you a parent or carer of children attending primary school in Surrey? Then we want to hear about your experience of using wraparound and holiday childcare.

We want to understand whether the childcare available locally meets your needs during term time and the holidays. And we want to find out what's important to you when choosing a childcare provider.

An update on how Surrey Fire and Rescue Service will be governed as a result of local government reorganisation 👇🏻

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service has been working with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government on future governance arrangements following Local Government Reorganisation.

The current direction is to establish a Combined Fire and Rescue Authority (CFRA) for Surrey, pending a Government consultation. The intention is for the CFRA to begin as of 1 April 2027 (known as Vesting Day).

A Combined Fire and Rescue Authority is essentially a 'standalone' fire and rescue service which is governed by elected councillors - from the unitary council elections that recently took place.

We are working through this as a service and will continue to keep you updated. You will not see any difference: if you need us in an emergency or contact us for support, we will be there.

Are you a telecare user? Or are you seeing an older relative this weekend who uses a falls alarm, emergency pendant or watch?

Make sure you've registered with the telecoms provider named on the phone bill. This is especially important if broadband isn't already installed.

It's a vital step in ensuring that you can still summon help after the digital landline switchover at the end of this year.

Warm weather is expected to continue in Surrey over the next few days.

Tips to keep cool indoors include: closing curtains on windows that face the sun, and opening windows when it’s cooler outside than inside (when it is safe to do so).

Turn off any unnecessary electrical items, and remember sometimes it’s cooler sitting in a park under a tree than it is in a home that is too hot. More information: https://orlo.uk/ctOlA
