The results for Bangor Conwy Môn are in, and while the outcome isn't what we worked toward, I am incredibly proud of the campaign we ran.
To the 1,591 people who voted for the Welsh Liberal Democrats: Thank you. In a landscape increasingly defined by two very different brands of nationalism; one looking toward independence and the other toward a specific vision of Britain, your vote for a liberal, internationalist, and moderate center-ground was a brave and vital choice.
It’s clear that our politics is becoming more divided, with many feeling drawn to the pull of identity-based movements on either side. However, I still believe that the best solutions for North Wales are found through cooperation, bridge-building, and looking outward to the world, rather than inward at ourselves.
To my campaign team: your energy kept me going. To the newly elected Members of the Senedd: congratulations. I hope you will represent all residents of this constituency, including those who feel that the path of nationalism, in any form, isn’t the answer to the challenges we face.
I’m taking a few days to recharge, but my commitment to our community and to the values of liberty and fairness remains unchanged.
