Last week Denbighshire Leisure Ltd showed their support for the RNLI's national Mayday Fundraising Campaign by lighting up Rhyl's promenade yellow, the same colour as our crew's iconic wellies they wear on every shout.
Thank you to DLL for their continued support to RNLI Rhyl.

🚨🛟SERVICE CALL🛟🚨
Rhyl's RNLI Inshore Lifeboat was tasked by Holyhead Coastguard to reports of a person stuck in sinking sand off Splash Point, Rhyl at 21:00 yesterday evening (29th May).
The Inshore Lifeboat was launched within minutes and once arrived on scene found the casualty to be trapped in the sand with the incoming tide now around their waste.
The lifeboat was brought alongside the casualty and crew put them in a lifejacket. A crewmember supported the casualty on their back, which popped their feet out of the sand.
The casualty was recovered into the inshore lifeboat, and brought back to the lifeboat station for a check over and warm up. Rhyl Coastguard Rescue Team were also tasked to the incident.

🚨🛟SERVICE CALLS🛟🚨

Rhyl’s RNLI Inshore Lifeboat was called out to one incident on Tuesday (26th May), and two separate incidents occurring at around 2pm yesterday (27th May).

On Tuesday, Rhyl Lifeguards were approached by a member of the public concerned for their two children, who had were missing and last seen at the waters edge. Rhyl’s Inshore Lifeboat was paged and tasked to complete a shoreline search, whilst the Lifeguards and Rhyl Coastguard Team searched the beach and promenade. The children were found safe and well after 30 minutes. All units were stood down.

Yesterday the initial call came in around 14:00, detailing that a child had been blown out to sea off Pensarn on a body board, and two other individuals had reportedly swam out to aid the boy. The Inshore lifeboat arrived to the scene shortly after the incident occurred, and the casualties were assisted ashore where they received the appropriate medical assistance needed.

The lifeboat was then called to help with a second rescue, where it was reported there were a number of people were blown out to sea on two Paddleboards off the Nova Centre in Prestatyn. Four casualties were safely rescued by the Inshore Lifeboat and brought ashore to awaiting lifeguards.

Whilst on the way back to shore, the crew spotted a fifth Paddleboard struggling around 600m from the beach. The individual involved was then rescued after the other four casualties had been dropped off, thus ending the day with five successful rescues all together.

The RNLI would like to remind everyone of the dangers of open water, and the key methods of water safety in regards to paddle boarding: to check the weather forecast before you set out, to be aware of the hazards and environment you’re in, and to remember the “float to live” motto.

We’d like to thank RNLI Lifeguards North Wales, Rhyl Coastguard Rescue Team North Wales Police, and the Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust for their assistance in these rescues, and all of the crew involved for their hard work.

All at Rhyl RNLI are greatly saddened to hear of the passing of Jean Frost MBE, President of the Rhyl RNLI Fundraisers.

Jean passed away peacefully at Belmont Care Home, Rhyl, on Sunday 17th May 2026, aged 96.

Jean and her husband Edward joined the local RNLI fundraisers in 1968 after their son Paul became part of the lifeboat crew. What followed was more than 50 years of dedicated service to the RNLI and the people of Rhyl.

Jean became a familiar face around the town and lifeboat station, particularly through her fundraising efforts at the White Rose Shopping Centre, local fetes and countless other events. Even in later years, Jean continued making and selling decorations and lavender bags to support the charity she loved so much.

Over the years, Jean raised an incredible amount for the RNLI and, in recognition of her remarkable service, was awarded an MBE by the then Prince Charles in 1999. She also received the RNLI’s 50-year medal for long service and, in 2022, was made a Freeman of the Town of Rhyl.

Jean remained President of the Rhyl RNLI Fundraisers until 2026 and continued to take a keen interest in the station and its crew throughout her life.

Jean will be greatly missed by everybody at the boathouse and throughout the local community. Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this difficult time.

Funeral details will be announced once arrangements have been confirmed.

Everyone at RNLI Rhyl are deeply saddened to hear of the loss of two volunteer crew of a Marine Rescue NSW boat, and a casualty in Ballina, New South Wales, Australia.
Our thoughts are with the crews families, friends and fellow crew at this incredibly difficult time.
They maybe half a world away, but we stand alongside our colleagues in Australia and the whole Search and Rescue community in remembrance to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice going to the aid of those in peril on the sea.

Our stations flag has been lowered to half mast in respect of our lost colleagues.
