🔥 Incident 🔥

We are currently dealing with a large wildfire in the Bryn Bach Park area.

Crews from Rhymney, Tredegar, Merthyr and Greater Manchester are working together to tackle the fire. Additionally, a helicopter is also operating in the area, using Bryn Bach Park as a water supply point. 🚁

The incident will be monitored overnight by fire crews. 👨🏻‍🚒

The crew at Station 28 Rhymney just wanted to give a huge Thank You to the community.

We have been working tirelessly around the clock on the numerous wildfires throughout the South Wales area and we will continue to do so. The dedication, perseverance and commitment on display by all SWFRS staff is nothing short of remarkable. 🚒

We’re so grateful for all the support we’ve received, and especially for all the kind gifts that have been delivered to us. Every gesture means so much to our crews and is hugely appreciated.

Thank you all for your continued support — it really means a lot. ♥️

The start of August has been exceptionally busy for crews across South Wales, dealing with increased wildfire activity and maintaining fire cover for usual calls. 🔥

We have attended incidents across the area including Llangynidr, Rudry and Gelligaer Common.

Working alongside specialist resources, air support and National Resilience assets. Pictured is our appliance alongside a crew from Cheshire. 🚒

🔥 Monday update: Llangynidr Reservoir moorland wildfire

This morning the moorland fire near the Llangynidr Reservoir is still ongoing and crews have been at the scene all weekend and have been containing the spread of the blaze.

The wind direction this morning has changed and communities towards Blaenavon, Brynmawr, Pontypool and Newport are affected by the smoke this morning.

Edit: Smoke can also be seen and smelt further afield, including Tredegar and the surrounding communities.

As part of our ongoing assessment of the incident, weather conditions and the resources needed, the specialist firefighting helicopter will return today supporting crews of firefighters, contractors and farmers on the ground by reaching hard to reach areas of land.

We still expect to be at the scene for a few days and we will continue to review our response daily as conditions change.

Llangynidr Road and other local roads maybe closed, please follow the diversions in place to support the emergency services with the space they need to fight the fire.

⚠️ Please continue to:

• Avoid flying drones in the area as they can affect emergency operations
• Keep windows and doors closed if you are affected by smoke and seek medical advice if needed
• Stay away from the area to allow emergency services to work safely

🔥 Incident 🔥

Yesterday evening we were mobilised to an ongoing wildfire near Trefil, also visible from the Rassau area.

Working alongside crews from Aberbargoed, Abertillery, Treorchy and Tredegar we dealt with hotspots and pockets of fire which were deep seated.

Assisted by local farmers and agricultural contractors with their tractors and bowsers a water relay was developed to supply the fire appliances at the scene. 🚜🧑‍🌾👏🏻

The incident is ongoing and reinspections of the incident will continue throughout the day. 🚒

🔥 Incident 🔥

This week we attended a large grass fire in the Ferndale area. Working alongside neighbouring fire crews and specialist wildfire teams we were able to bring the incident under control. ⛰️

The incident required a prolonged operational response, with crews spending a considerable amount of time on scene to tackle the fire and prevent further spread.

A great team effort by everyone involved. Thank you to all responding crews for their professionalism and hard work! 🚒

🚒 Station 28 🚒

This week we have been mobilised to multiple incidents in Rhymney and in neighbouring station areas.

These incidents include the protracted wildfire ongoing near Blaenavon, where we responded as part of a relief crew to assist in rotating other crews from South Wales and Mid & West Wales.

We were also mobilised to a burst water main near Rhymney High Street which had caused subsidence near Castle Fields. Working alongside Welsh Water and the local authority we provided scene safety.

We appreciate all the kind words and support we are receiving during this busy period, it certainly helps keep morale high.

This week we have been to support several community and charity events in the area. Specifically, schools fetes in Fochriw, Bryn Awel and Idris Davies! 🏫

🔥 Incident🔥

Early hours this morning we were alerted to reports of a property fire, in Troedrhiwfuwch. Working alongside crews from Tredegar and Aberbargoed.

On arrival we located one derelict house that was well alight, with the roof suffering collapse.

Crews used breathing apparatus and main jets to extinguish the fire, taking proactive exterior tactics due to the structural integrity of the building.

A water relay was implemented using a water carrier and a nearby hydrant, police attended and assisted with traffic management along the A469.

Oriau cynnar y bore yma cawsom ein rhybuddio am adroddiadau am dân mewn eiddo yn Nhroedrhiwfuwch. Gan weithio ochr yn ochr â chriwiau o Dredegar ac Aberbargod.

Ar ôl cyrraedd, fe wnaethom leoli un tŷ adfeiliedig a oedd ar dân yn llwyr, gyda'r to wedi cwympo.

Defnyddiodd y criwiau offer anadlu a jetiau prif i ddiffodd y tân, gan gymryd tactegau allanol rhagweithiol oherwydd cyfanrwydd strwythurol yr adeilad.

Gweithredwyd ras gyfnewid dŵr gan ddefnyddio cludwr dŵr a hydrant gerllaw, mynychodd yr heddlu a chynorthwyo gyda rheoli traffig ar hyd yr A469. 🚒🏠🔥📟🖨️
