Making our town centres welcoming and vibrant 🌟

St Margarets and North Twickenham sits between two of the borough's key town centres, and we're working to make both places people are proud of.

🏗️St Margarets and North Twickenham Lib Dem councillors report construction is well under way on the Riverside transformation, due for completion by the end of 2027. It will bring new public spaces, play areas, shops, cafés, river connections and 45 new homes, half of them affordable. We've also supported the popular High Tide Festival, bringing culture into the heart of the town.

Himalayan Balsam is an invasive ornamental plant which was introduced to Britain and is now choking our riverside.

Cllr Dermot Kelly is organising community action to remove invasive plants including Himalayan Balsam from our riverbanks, working hand-in-hand with two local Borough organisations, Thames Landscape Strategy (TLS) and Habitats & Heritage. 🌊 We're standing firm against Thames Water's controversial river abstraction scheme.

We continue to oppose the Teddington Direct River Abstraction (TDRA) plans with growing concern for the impact on Burnell Avenue, where TW intends to build on the tow path. We're working alongside local campaign group SOLAR (Save Our Lands and River) to fight these flawed plans. 💪

The scheme threatens to remove millions of litres of water above the weir and replace it with treated effluent risking "forever chemicals" (PFAS) entering our river ecosystem. ⚠️

Your three ward councillors submitted objections to TW's recent consultation, and joined neighbouring Kingston councillors in backing their concerns too.

✍️ We need 100,000 signatures to force a debate in Parliament.

Watch out for Action Weekends on the grass outside Burnell — let's keep the pressure up and demand higher wastewater treatment standards to protect public health and local wildlife. 🐟

⚡ Introducing the Richmond Community Energy Cooperative!

A new community-owned, not-for-profit initiative helping local people power the clean energy transition. 🌱

Supported by the Council, the cooperative will bring residents together to develop renewable energy projects - like solar on schools and community buildings - with locals able to invest and share in the benefits, while surpluses go straight back into the community. 🔋

Cllr Julia Neden-Watts: 'Beyond cutting carbon emissions, the cooperative aims to lower energy costs, build local resilience, develop skills and strengthen community engagement in tackling climate change. Many people in our area have tremendous expertise in and enthusiasm for green energy, and I hope people will find out more and get involved.'

🚨 Illegal e-bike usage is a growing concern in Teddington & Hampton Wick - and we're taking action.

Following a recent Police Liaison Group meeting, police and local councillors are joining forces to tackle dangerous and illegal e-bike riding, especially near schools, parks and busy public spaces.

The Council Leader will also raise this with Borough Commander and Met Police leadership to push for consistent enforcement and resourcing across London.
