I look forward to Janice Hallett's books every September, and this year's was one of my favourites so far. It's a continuation of The Appeal and The Christmas Appeal, set in the same fictional village of Lower Lockwood with the same characters (including one surprising reprisal!).

Hallett's books are witty and I can never guess what's going to happen next. They're written in an epistolary style, which to me makes it compulsively readable. If you'd like some clever, cosy crime I can very much recommend The Silent Appeal (but, read The Appeal first for maximum enjoyment!).

Another month, another aspect of local history! This time, Kellys Directories - an invaluable source for local businesses and residents amongst other things.

Old slippers often cause trips and falls, which can lead to unnecessary stays in hospital and loss of independence.

At our Slipper Swaps, residents who are older, have mobility difficulties or a disability, can throw away their worn-out slippers and swap them for a brand-new free pair of anti-slip ones - and find out more about keeping themselves safe and well by talking to an occupational therapist or one of our many other community partners.

No need to book. Just come along on 20th October between 10am and 1pm.

Library staff will also be on hand to help, and introduce you to our services for older people such as social groups; activities; the Home Library Service; information, and the Carer’s Library Card.

We should point out that during this event there will be limited access to our children's library and apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause.
