ARMY AIR FORCES HISTORICAL SOCIETY
Thanks for stopping by our page. The idea for this page and group started because a few friends with slightly different Air Power interests and impressions realized that there was so much more to the US Army Air Forces in Europe during WWII then just Bomb Groups-which is where most of us started. Since we collectively shared an interest in US WWII Air Power, we d

ecided to expand our impressions to include not only Bomber Crews, but also Fighter Pilots, Medium Bomber Crews, Troop Carrier Crews, and Glider Pilots. We also recognized the need for impressions of the myriad of ground and support personnel that enabled those fliers to fly and who outnumbered them by more than a hundredfold. It was the unsung work of the Staff Personnel, Armorers, Maintenance Teams, Radio Repairman, Firefighters, Truck Drivers, Chaplains, and even MPs who propelled the AAF Groups to become the point of the spear for the World’s most powerful Air Force. So we welcome all AAF impressions, WASPs (Women Air Force Service Pilots) and even the ARC Mobile Service (American Red Cross Ladies) who played an important role for motivating the Airmen and Ground Crews with their Coffee, Doughnuts and ever loving smiles. But we do have a few very basic ground rules, which are common sense and have to do more with appearance then anything else. We look forward to hearing from you and once again thanks again for stopping by and don’t forget to keep checking in. Our Historical Society represents and honors the 381st Bomb Group and its 4 Bomb Squadrons, 532nd, 533th, 534th, 535th
Since FB maps does not know Ridgewell Airfield in Essex, 381st BG, Station 167, we have chosen a nearby location :)

'When you go home Tell them of us and say For your tomorrow We gave our today! 🙏🫡

No more words needed then to ''Remember Freedom is not for Free'

Here we did a little ceremony on the sacred ground of 'Omaha Beach', and 'Utah Beach' in honor of all who gave the ultimate sacrifice

While the festivities surrounding the D-Day Invasion is in full throttle, posting few photos made by our man Hans Verbeek, currently enjoying Normandie. Thank you, Hans. Have a great time overthere 🇫🇷👋

It remains, no 'IT IS' an impressive work of Art. Without doubt it will be one of the monuments going to get many visits during the 82nd Anniversary of D-Day! A must go! 🫡

'The four life-size bronze statues of the American Air Force is located at the historic site near the La Fière Bridge in Normandy, close to Sainte-Mère-Église.

This monument, created by sculptor Benjamin Victor, honors the 26,000 fallen pilots and crew members of the Eighth Air Force. The impressive monument was unveiled during the 81st D-Day commemorations and has since become a regular, well-visited spot during the memorial events.

'The Mighty Eighth' 😍

We Remember 82 Years Ago 🙏

Aboard the C-47 Pegasus, airborne at 07:50 en route to Caen.

Flags pulsing in the wind, low cloud overhead, smoke drifting across the airfield courtesy of Pratt & Whitney radial engines, and dew still clinging to the grass. Conditions that remind you this story was never written on perfect days.
If weather like this didn't stop them in 1944, then we owe it to them to keep their story alive today.

Our operational window may be short, but our team remains well within the experience, capability, and discipline required to safely bring history to life once more. Every lift, jump and landing is a reminder of what was achieved here 82 years ago.
