This week, our pothole and street lighting teams will be working across the county in Chiddingly, Eastbourne, Peacehaven, Polegate and Herstmonceux.

The improvement works at St Michael's Terrace, have now been completed, including the installation of four new street lighting columns.

The road travelling over privately owned garages received a new lease of life and a new waterproof layer, ensuring the reinforced concrete structures will be protected for many years to come.

Alongside the main waterproofing project, additional maintenance work was undertaken in the area, including brickwork repointing, pothole repairs and vegetation clearance. The scheme was completed ahead of schedule, and positive feedback has been received from local residents regarding the improvements delivered.

A wet and windy bank holiday weekend swept across the county, keeping our on call teams busy.

We received 54 emergency callouts, including:
🌳 33 fallen trees / branches
💧 2 reports of flooding
⚠️ 19 other incidents

The Cuilfail Tunnel, Lewes will be closed for routine maintenance on Friday 11 September 2026, 8pm - 6am.
A diversion route will be in place via the A27, Brighton Road, High Street, Market Street, Phoenix Causeway & vice versa.

🚧 UPDATE: Whitesmith🚧 28 August 2026

Ahead of the main works on Whitesmith, starting on Monday 14 September, we'll be carrying out some preparation work on Friday 11 September to help everything run as smoothly as possible. This work will take place under three-way temporary traffic lights at the B2124 junction between 7pm and 6am. By completing this work in advance, we're hoping to reduce the amount of time the road needs to be closed during the main scheme and minimise disruption for residents and road users.
