A living, collaborative exhibition exploring women’s experiences in 19th century institutions. Ripon Museums have commissioned textile artist Poppy Nash to create a new temporary exhibition at Ripon Workhouse Museum.
Poppy’s work has been featured across the UK, including The Patriot Hall in Edinburgh and The Wellcome collection in London. There is also a huge mural including her work being painted in London, Waterloo.
The work Poppy creates will be inspired by historic embroidery and textile pieces made in institutional settings, including the striking work of Lorina Bulwer, as well as the experiences of women who lived and worked in the Ripon Workhouse.
But this won’t be a static exhibition—it will grow and change over time.
Alongside creating their own textile artwork for the museum, Poppy will run workshops with community groups, as well as drop-in sessions for the public. Visitors and participants will be invited to contribute their own textile pieces, which will become part of the evolving display.
We've been able to commission this exciting artwork as a result of public funding from Arts Council England.
We can’t wait to see the stories that will be stitched into this work.
