📣 Could you be Ripon’s next Relief Hornblower?

Ripon City Council is looking to recruit a Relief Hornblower to support our existing Hornblowing Team on a casual, very sporadic basis.

This is a rare opportunity to play a part in one of Ripon’s oldest and most treasured civic traditions. Every evening at 9pm, the Hornblower sounds the horn at the four corners of the Obelisk in Ripon Market Square, before later declaring that “the Watch is set.”

This is not a regular weekly rota role. It is a relief position, providing occasional cover when needed and, from time to time, supporting civic events, ceremonies and processions.

We’re looking for someone who is reliable, confident speaking to the public, respectful of tradition, and proud to represent Ripon.

Training can be provided, including how to sound the horn.
