We recently brought young people together from local secondary schools for our annual 'Celebrating Neurodiversity Conference'.

Organised by our Rochdale Additional Needs (RANS) team, students heard from incredible local individuals who openly shared their lives and the things that bring them joy, to show our students that anything is possible.

We also celebrated the talents across our communities, with young people leaving feeling inspired and full of confidence for the future.

We want every young person to feel hopeful and prepared for what lies ahead and this event truly shows why our borough is a great place to grow up, get on and live well.

As part of the council’s commitment to tackling crime on the high street, our trading standards team have closed another two premises in the borough.

Following recent hearings at Manchester Magistrates court, Cozy Market, trading in Milnrow, and Pop Smoke, trading in Middleton, have both been closed for a period of three months. This is the maximum currently permitted by legislation.

Working in partnership with Greater Manchester Police, this makes 14 closure orders locally over the past 12 months.

📢We are delighted to announce our adult care service has been rated as ‘good’ following an assessment by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The council was given a CQC rating of 75 per cent, with inspectors praising a well-led service that delivers high-quality care and support for residents in Heywood, Middleton, Pennines and Rochdale.

The CQC praised the council's exceptional partnership and community approach to delivering services for thousands of older and vulnerable people.

Leader of the council, Councillor Neil Emmott, said: “This is an excellent outcome from the CQC assessment, underlining yet again the high-quality value for money services we are delivering for our residents.

“The good rating is a reflection of the outstanding work of our staff and is a credit to each and every one of them and the work they do, day in day out, to support people."

Coun Shah Wazir, cabinet member for adult care and wellbeing, said the report was testament to adult care’s continual journey of change.

He said: “The CQC rating underlines what an outstanding group of staff we have, taking pride in their work, passionate about improving residents’ lives and pioneering in their approach. Council staff are delivering high-quality services which, as the inspectors confirmed, makes our residents feel safe and well supported."

📢We are proud to announce that the delivery of Operation Tetbury has won a coveted national award.

The campaign scooped the Best Safety, Security and Resilience Scheme award at last night's Town and City Management Industry ceremony.

Operation Tetbury is an ongoing effort by the council, Rochdale Police - GMP, Rochdale Town Centre BID and other partners to increase enforcement activities and community engagement in the town centre.

The award is deserved recognition of the drive to increase standards in the town centre for residents and visitors, and allow local business to thrive.

Success stories from Operation Tetbury include:-

- The closure of a number of shops which have been operating as ‘fronts’ for the illegal trade of counterfeit and harmful goods.

- A clampdown on antisocial behaviour.

Well done on everyone involved. Operation Tetbury is ongoing, as the drive to make the borough an even better place to live and work continues.
