Seven men have been given prison sentences totalling 174 years after a GMP investigation into the non-recent grooming of two vulnerable girls in Rochdale.

The investigation into their abuse covers a timeframe of offences which took place between 2001 and 2006.

| Seven men have today been sentenced to a combined 174 years in prison for the horrific sexual abuse of two vulnerable girls in between 2001 and 2006.

Their convictions follow a complex investigation led by GMP’s Child Sexual Exploitation Major Investigations Team (CSE MIT). The survivors showed immense courage by giving painful and powerful testimony, helping bring their abusers to justice.

This is part of Operation Lytton, GMP’s ongoing commitment to securing justice for survivors of child sexual exploitation. So far, 12 offenders have been jailed for a total of more than 200 years, with more trials scheduled.

DCI Guy Laycock, Senior Investigating Officer, said: “These men preyed on vulnerability for their own depraved gain. The survivors’ bravery has been extraordinary, and today is about them. Our team has worked tirelessly to support them and bring these offenders to justice.”

Time is no barrier to justice. Support is available.

If you or someone you know has been affected by sexual abuse, please don’t suffer in silence. Help is available:

The UK’s first mobile surrender van will be visiting our borough on Thursday 3 July as part of a national scheme to remove ninja swords and other dangerous weapons from the streets and reduce knife crime.

It will be accomapnied by a new government-funded knife surrender bin too, that people can use anonymously to hand in all types of bladed weapons, including ninja swords, which will be banned nationally from 1 August.

If you have a knife, you can safely and discreetly hand these into the purpose-built and fully secure van without giving any personal information at the following locations on this day.

🚮 Darnhill Library & Community Café, Argyle Parade, OL10 3RY (9.30am – 12.30pm)
🚮 Riverside, Smith Street Car Park, Rochdale, OL16 1XU (2pm – 6pm)
