Romsey and Southampton North Conservative Association The Romsey and Southampton North Conservative Association. From Southampton:
Bassett and Swaythling.

The Romsey and Southampton North seat was formed for the 2010 General Election, after an independent review by the Boundary Commission. Most of the constituency’s population live outside Romsey, with approximately 20,000 of the electorate residing in the two wards of Bassett and Swaythling, which are within Southampton City. The remainder of the 68,000 electorate live within Test Valley Borough, e

ither in Romsey town itself or in the many beautiful Test Valley villages. Including Glen Eyre and Wessex Lane Halls of Residence for University of Southampton. From Test Valley:
(Romsey) Abbey, Ampfield and Braishfield, Blackwater, Broughton and Stockbridge, Chilworth, Nursling and Rownhams, Cupernham, Dun Valley, Harewood, King’s Somborne and Michelmersh, North Baddesley, Over Wallop, Romsey Extra, Tadburn, Valley Park
The constituency has given birth to many notable people, such as Rev. W Awdry, an accomplished author, railway enthusiast, and the man who wrote the ‘Thomas the Tank Engine’ children’s books. Perhaps the constituencies most famous resident was Florence Nightingale, who is buried at East Wellow, after having received a calling to nurse injured soldiers whilst sat under a cedar tree on the family’s Embley Park Estate, now the site of Hampshire Collegiate School. The constituency is made up of many beautiful hamlets and villages, and is a wonderful location for tourism, close to the beautiful and historic cities of Wi******er and Salisbury. The constituency is an area of outstanding beauty with parts of it falling into the New Forest National Park, and boasts some of the best trout fishing in the world. The University of Southampton is just outside the constituency, but many of the halls of residence fall within Romsey and Southampton North. Chilworth is the location of Southampton University Science Park, and in Swaythling the largest employer is Ford, where the Transit is manufactured. The constituency is also is home to the Army Air Corps and the School of Army Aviation at Middle Wallop. Although officially a mixed rural/urban constituency, the majority of Romsey and Southampton North is found within the boundaries of Test Valley Borough, and is largely rural. Stretching over 25 miles north to south, from Chilworth, Nursling and Swaythling in the south, to Longparish, Wherwell and Chilbolton in the north. The Constituency was formed from much of the former Romsey Constituency, and Romsey itself is a historic market town of 15,000 residents dating back over a thousand years. Found on the banks of the wonderful river Test, and built around the world famous Abbey (based upon the foundations of a Saxon church which was sacked by the Vikings in 993), the town was given its first charter by Henry 1st in the 13th centuary, and another Charter by Charles 1st just over 400 years ago. Romsey was badly hit by the Black Death, killing half the population, whose main industry was the production of wool. Romsey is of course famous for the Broadlands Estate, home to Lord Mountbatten of Burma, the last Viceroy and first Governor General of India, who after his murder in August 1979 was buried in Romsey Abbey.

Liberal Democrats have thrown their support behind the government’s Clean Heat Market Mechanism which will tax people who want to keep their gas boiler

The proposal gives the Energy Secretary the power to fine companies that aren’t selling enough heat pumps

Manufacturers are likely to pass the costs onto their customers

By backing the Boiler Tax, Lib Dems have given Ed Miliband the power to meddle with the price of gas boilers and cause real hardship for struggling families

**Winter Fuel Payment support available for Test Valley residents over the age of 66**

People above the age of 66 in Test Valley, who may need a little extra financial help this winter, are being urged to come forward.

Earlier this year, borough councillors came together to extend a local Test Valley Winter Fuel Payment Scheme, allocating an initial £20,000 to the project and a further £20,000 if needed.

The Test Valley Winter Fuel Payment Scheme has been in place since 2022, which allowed those who received a payment, but didn’t necessarily require it, to donate it to help others in the borough in need.

Following the Labour government's decision to no longer provide everyone over the age of 66 with a Winter Fuel Payment, the your Conservative council wanted to make sure funding was still available for those struggling.

Age UK estimates that around 2 million pensioners who badly need the money to stay warm this winter will not receive it as result of the government changes. Previously, everyone over the age of 66 would receive a payment.

Those of pensionable age, living in Test Valley, and in need of some extra support are being encouraged to contact Citizens Advice (CA), who will make an assessment to determine whether the person qualifies for financial assistance.

Those the CA identifies for financial help will then be referred to Unity, a Test Valley-based charity that will hold the funding pot and make the payments of up to £100 direct to residents.

Leader of Test Valley Borough Council, Councillor Phil North, said: “We want to make sure that anyone above the age of 66 is getting the help and support they need in these difficult times, but we also need those people to make themselves known to us.

“This money could be vital in supporting vulnerable pensioners in Test Valley and if your elderly relative or friend could benefit from this please encourage them to contact Citizens Advice, they will be more than happy to help them.”

Residents can contact them on 0808 178 6882 or go to their website www.testvalleycab.org.uk.

Labour’s manifesto said that they believed food security is national security. 🚜

This video just shows what many in the Labour Party really think, as demonstrated by the implementation of their inheritance tax policy.

It’s terrible news for all of the farmers in our constituency. If you really believe, like us, that farms and farmers are important parts of our communities, and that ‘food security is national security’ is a key policy rather than merely an election slogan to row back on, then sign our petition below.

Lest we forget all those who gave their lives in the Great War, and every other conflict since the peace negotiations began 106 years ago today.

Yesterday, Caroline Nokes MP attended the Remembrance service in Romsey Abbey before processing down to the Memorial Park, accompanied by the stirring music of the Hampshire Caledonia Pipe Band, where she laid a wreath in her capacity as Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons.

Our Deputy Chairman, Joseph Dwyer, also laid a wreath on behalf of the constituency Conservative association

In Andover, The Worshipful Mayor of Test Valley, Cllr Ian Jeffrey attended the Remembrance ceremony, along with Cllr David Drew and Cllr Susanne Hasselmann TVBC Anna Ward.

It was wonderful to see so many thousands of people turn out to remember those who gave their lives for our future.

The Labour Government has chosen to scrap the Winter Fuel Payment for 25,237 pensioners in Test Valley, despite promising to protect the benefit during the general election.

Just weeks after the election, the new Labour Chancellor Rachel Reeves has announced a cut to the Winter Fuel Payment which will reduce it by between £100 and £300, money that would usually have helped pensioners with their heating bills during the winter.

Between 2010 and 2023, the Conservatives had lifted over 200,000 pensioners out of absolute poverty. The Conservative Government’s unprecedented cost of living support following Putin’s illegal invasion of Ukraine also prevented 400,000 pensioners from falling into absolute poverty after housing costs in 2022-23.

Labour’s scrapping of the Winter Fuel Payment comes despite Labour’s Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Darren Jones MP, saying that Labour had ‘no plans to make changes’ to pensioner benefits.

Pressure is now mounting on Keir Starmer to U-turn on his decision to take away up to £300 from each pensioner.

Labour has announced cuts to the Winter Fuel Payment, putting pensioners at risk financially.
