**Local History Talk – Rosyth Library – Tuesday 19th May **

Join historian, Roger Pickering, co-founder of Forth Pilgrim/Defend Fife, for an inspiring account of ORP Orzel’s daring escape from Tallinn, epic Baltic journey, through the Danish Straits over the North Sea to be finally escorted into Rosyth by the Royal Navy destroyer, HMS Valorous, as she arrived in 1939. After, losing radio contact, the submarine was declared missing in the North Sea on 8th June 1940. Her loss is still unexplained and despite efforts, the wreck has yet to be found. Roger will share how this story of Polish heroism during World War II has inspired the creation of the ORP Orzeł Memorial Garden, currently under construction in Rosyth to commemorate the crew who lost their lives.
