Today (1/6/26), a PCSO from Rotherham North Neighbourhood Team attended Swinton Queenβs Primary School to speak with pupils about the dangers of open water, including rivers, canals, lakes and other waterways.
The session focused on staying safe around water, understanding the risks, and knowing what to do in an emergency.
We were joined by Simon from https://orlo.uk/Iy0Q7, who delivered an informative talk about cold water shock, the importance of throw lines, and how to use the emergency rescue boards located around the Rotherham area.
A big thank you to the school for welcoming us. Educating young people about water safety is vital, especially as the warmer weather approaches and more people spend time outdoors.
Stay safe, stay aware, and remember: if you see someone in difficulty in the water, call 999 and ask for the Fire Service if inland, or the Coastguard if at the coast. Never enter the water yourself to attempt a rescue.
