Wentworth Woodhouse is open to the public for visits to the house and gardens, afternoon tea and a variety of events throughout the year. Wentworth Woodhouse is a Grade 1 listed country house in the village of Wentworth, South Yorkshire. With an east front of 185 meters, this impressive mansion is reputed to have the longest country house facade in Europe. The history of Wentworth Woodhouse, as we

ll as the village of Wentworth, is inextricably linked with the history of the great aristocratic families - the Wentworths, Watsons and Fitzwilliams - who presided over it for generations.

πŸŽ₯ Our Echoes of the House: Stories in Light and Motion exhibition is now well underway and we're shining a spotlight on the exhibits in situ to give you a glimpse at what's on offer. This is My Shoes for the Blacks by Cole Morris and Dig Where You Stand...

✨ We insist on the Black presence being a part of the fabric of this house and contemplate a little-known history of Rotherham's Georgian Black community. Their names are Thomas Blake, George Senegal, Henry Fryday, and Thomas Spriggs. They built lives here. Married and had children. They carry stories of resilience

✨ 'My Shoes for the Blacks' is a reclamation created by award winning multimedia artist, Cole Morris. The shadow puppet film explores the hidden lives of the Black Servants who worked, lived, and died here. The house remembers.

πŸ“œ Morris' work asks viewers to consider whose stories are preserved, whose are forgotten, and how art can illuminate lies that have, too often, lived in the shadows.

πŸ‘‰ Join us at Echoes of the House: Stories in Light and Motion, until Sunday 8th November, to see how Dig Where You Stand and Cole Morris make emotional the paper and the light: https://wentworthwoodhouse.org.uk/whats-on/exhibition-echoes-of-the-house-stories-in-light-and-motion/
