NEWS: Day of action as Rotherham summer safety campaign launched

A day of partnership-led action is underway in Rotherham with a combination of enforcement activity and engagement events taking place across the district.

Today's (Wednesday 10 June) operation is the launch of our summer safety campaign in Rotherham - focusing on criminality and safety risks which unfortunately increase during the summer period.

Neighbourhood officers, as well as colleagues from Rotherham Council and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (SYFR), will be based at sites across Rotherham hosting engagement opportunities.

PCSOs and Rotherham Council colleagues are crewing stalls in the town centre, on Clifton Park and at Riverside House - sharing advice around domestic abuse and raising awareness about how we all can play a role in tackling violence against women and girls.

We will also be supporting crews from SYFR as they host a water safety event at Rother Valley. This will be an opportunity to share advice, as well as showcasing a water rescue demonstration.

Officers will also be carrying out enforcement activities throughout the day. This will include proactive patrols, arrests attempts and crime prevention initiatives.

Already this morning, Rotherham North Neighbourhood Policing Team, Fortify and Tasking Teams have carried out a collection of warrants in Thrybergh targeting those thought to be supplying drugs to our local communities.

We will be posting more content in relation to this day of action over the course of this week. Please keep an eye on our channels for the latest updates. Read more here - https://orlo.uk/4vAVC

If you want to report a crime to us, you can do so by calling 101 or 999 in an emergency and when a life is at risk. You can also report crime to us by submitting information on our website.

Come and see us at Clifton Park today, start a conversation, raise awareness and help save lives ๐Ÿ‘ฎ๐Ÿป

We are at Clifton Park today for the Sam's Army Family Fun Day and Car Show, raising awareness of water safety.

Sam's Army was created following the death of Sam, a young boy who lost his life at Ulley Reservoir five years ago.

Following recent tragedies in South Yorkshire and across the country we are supporting the event and raising awareness.

We are alongside South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue so come and see us, say hello, and start a conversation.

The weather is set to be hot again today, if you have children, teenagers who are going out with their friends, please talk to them about staying safe near water.

Sceptre returns to South Yorkshire this week

Today (Monday 18 May) is the start of a national week of action highlighting our efforts to tackle knife crime in South Yorkshire.

As part of our ongoing commitment to tackle knife crime, we are taking part in a nationally-led week of action known as Sceptre.

During this week, running from today until Sunday (24 May), we will highlight the work our officers do every day to detect, prevent and reduce knife crime within our local communities.

Tomorrow (Tuesday 19th May), Officers from Rotherham Central Neighbourhoods Team will be in attendance at Rotherham College where Officers will be present throughout the day to interact with students and staff as well as setting up a 'knife arch' for students entering and leaving the college.

We know the unimaginable pain and unnecessary destruction caused by knife crime โ€“ to both victims and their grieving friends and families. โŒ ๐Ÿ”ช ๐Ÿ‘Ž

On Wednesday evening, our NPT Officers were out patrolling the suburb of Eastwood when attention was drawn to some rather suspicious looking activity by the rider of an E-Scooter.

The unsuspecting rider was soon swooped upon by our fast-acting Officers. A search of the rider revealed that they were in possession of controlled drugs.

Just when things couldn't get any worse for the rider losing his pride and joy, a check via the Police National Computer revealed that the rider was suspected of committing robbery offences.

The rider was convoyed to 'Hotel de Shepcote' and his E-Scooter bound for the crusher ready to be turned into tin cans.

Detectives investigating two incidents at a shop in Rotherham have arrested a man on suspicion of sexual activity with a child.

Over the weekend, we received two reports relating to a convenience store in Kimberworth.

The first report was in relation to a young person emerging from a back room with a member of staff on Saturday (25 April). A 53-year-old man remains in custody for questioning.

The second report was in relation to a member of staff being assaulted on Sunday (26 April). An investigation is ongoing.

Earlier today, following extensive enquiries, officers were able to identify the previously unknown young person who had emerged from the shopโ€™s back room. They are now assisting officers with their enquiries.

Detective Chief Inspector Emma Knight said: โ€œWhile enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding these two incidents, I would like to publicly thank local residents who contact us to report their suspicions. Intelligence is key in crime prevention and reduction, and those who live and work in our communities are one of our greatest sources of intelligence.

โ€œWe are aware that these incidents has caused concern within the local community and we completely understand why this is the case. Our investigation is ongoing and we are pleased to have been able to identify the young person involved so they can assist us with our enquiries and help us determine our next steps.โ€

If you have information about either of these incidents, please report it to us via Live Chat or 101, quoting incident number 460 of 26 April 2026.
