It’s Volunteers’ Week. 🌿

This week, we’re celebrating the people who help make Wimpole such a special place, from welcoming visitors and leading walks to gardening and working at Home Farm.

Meet Charles, who started volunteering at Wimpole in 2016 after spotting a role for a tractor ride driver online. Since then, he’s taken on all sorts of roles across the estate, from Farm Guide and Field Walk Leader to mobility buggy driver and Welcome Team volunteer.

“It fills me with a deep sense of satisfaction to know that I have done something worthwhile and maybe made someone’s visit to Wimpole just a little better.”

Thank you to Charles and all of our volunteers for everything they do at Wimpole.🤍👏🥇

With the recent warm weather, the Walled Garden is transitioning into full blooming summer with gusto.

Peonies and roses are still putting on a marvellous display and the salvia banks will be coming through soon.

It's always worth popping back to see what's changed in the Wimpole Estate gardens since your last visit - our amazing gardeners and their teams of brilliant volunteers ensure that there's an ever-changing feast for the senses.

Hope to see you soon 💚

We thought we would share this lovely opportunity to visit and view the Willington Dovecote and Stables in Bedfordshire this Sunday.

We've loved seeing visitors enjoying the Pokémon Trail on the parkland at Wimpole Estate this half term.

And as you can see, we had a lot of fun setting it up too 💚

It's open until 6th September and watch out for additional Pokémon events across the summer holidays !

On Sunday we were excited to welcome back to Wimpole Estate some lovely members of the Series 1 Landrover Club.

As always, they happily took questions from visitors and many were welcomed aboard to try out the hot seats.

They'll be back again on September 13th as part of our Harv'fest celebrations, so if you missed them this time or want to see them again, do pop the date in the diary.

It should be cooler by then.....

This summer would you or someone you know like to take an active role in the popular Summer of Play events at Wimpole?

We’re looking for two Programming Assistants to join us for eight weeks from July 13th. You’ll be supporting the busy Visitor Experience Team, helping families get the best out of their visit by setting up and leading activities, keeping the Summer of Play Hub tidy and collecting visitor feedback.

These are fixed term contracts and will include weekend and bank holiday working. To see the full role description, head to the National Trust jobs website and search for:

We’re excited to hear from you!

We're excited to share the news that we have a handsome new addition to our Dartmoor pony conservation grazing herd!

Named in honour of Wimpole Estate's association with the Kipling family, Mowgli was born in early May and is thriving, thanks to the care of his brilliant mum Millie.

Millie is an experienced mother and she and Mowgli have formed a tight bond - as you can see from how close he keeps when they're on the move.

Mowgli is secure and happy within the herd as the other ponies are respectful of Millie's protective instincts. He is becoming more adventurous and regularly gets the zoomies, but always comes back to Millie for food and safety. He'll suckle for 4-7 months and is already copying the herd by nibbling grass.

No more foals are planned after this and the Dartmoor pony herd are still out grazing the wider areas of the estate. Avid walkers may see them out amongst our wilder fields and meadows on the outskirts of the estate.

Meanwhile we'll keep you updated on Mowgli's
progress in the coming months.

If you're longing to think some green thoughts in a green shade, the gardens at Wimpole Estate are just the place.

There are swathes of tree-lined walks around the Pleasure Gardens and the Walled Garden is like a bright jewel box at its heart.

Alliums and poppies are still in abundance, but the peonies and roses are starting to break through, making it a haven for our resident bees.

And if you come midweek, you can ask at the visitor centre about garden tours, which will give you an insight into how the amazing garden team keep everything looking so lovely.

There’s plenty to enjoy at Wimpole this half term 🌿

From Big Tree Climbing and archery workshops to heavy horse carriage rides and time with the animals at Home Farm, there’s lots to keep children busy outdoors.

Add in acres of space to explore and a café stop along the way, and it’s a great place for a family day out.
