- LEST WE FORGET –

This weekend members of the took part in 5 different acts of remembrance.

On Saturday 8th November a few cadets parade at the 91st heavy bomb group at Bassingbourn Barracks.

Then again on Sunday 9th also known as Remembrance Sunday we took part in 3 parades.
A morning parade at the Bassingbourn Commonwealth War Graves followed by both Bassingbourn and Royston civic parades.

On Tuesday 11th (armistice day) Sgt Alfad, Cpl Banks and CDT Telford Reed took part in an act of remembrance at Royston memorial. Sgt Alfad as the banner bearer for the Royston branch of the RBL and Cdt Telford Reed playing the last post.

A huge well done to all the cadets for their high standards during all the services and to our new phase ones for attending
their first remembrance parade.

We gather together on this day of remembrance to honour and commemorate
the members of the armed forces who died in the line of duty during
World War I and subsequent conflicts. The day specifically marks the
armistice signed at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in
1918, which ended the fighting in World War I.

We Will Remember Them

- SETTING THE STANDARD -

On Saturday cadets of the represented at the annual Royal British Legion Banner Competition. After competing in this event for 3 years and coming in second place this was the year for Sgt Alfad who topped the score sheets in First place.

Sgt Alfad was presented the Cambridgeshire RBL standard by Last years winner FS Wallman of 1094 Ely Squadron Royal Air Force Air Cadets and will now be the Cadet standard bearer for Cambridgeshire RBL

Well done to all the cadets who attended and expanded their knowledge of banner drill.

-2484 BASSINGBOURN SQUADRON VISIT RIAT 2025-

This weekend, the had the fantastic opportunity to attend the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire.

Our day began bright and early at 4:00am, and from the moment we arrived, the cadets were immersed in the awe-inspiring world of aviation. They met numerous pilots, got up close to an incredible variety of aircraft from around the world, and experienced the electric atmosphere of one of the biggest airshows in Europe.

A huge thank you to CI Warner & Sergeant Banks, who safely drove us —. It was a very long but unforgettable day.

-Bronze DofE Expedition Success-

This weekend, 9 cadets from the successfully completed their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition.

Despite the challenging heat, the team showed great resilience—completing both days of walking, taking part in an overnight camp, and fully engaging with their expedition aim: to study the effects of heat and food on the body.

The cadets also focused on developing teamwork and communication skills, along with practising campcraft, including cooking and managing camp life.

A fantastic effort from all involved—well done team!

-CHARITY RUN IN THE SUN-

This weekend, the 2484 family proudly supported the 2nd annual Bass Belle 10k run in aid of the Brainstrust.

On what turned out to be an extremely hot day, our amazing cadets helped marshal the event, staffed the bag drop tent, handed out medals at the finish line, and kept runners hydrated by manning the in-course water stations.

Our Civilian Committee were also on hand, serving up hot bacon rolls, cold drinks, and a delicious selection of cakes — all very much appreciated by participants and spectators alike.

Well done to everyone who took part in this fantastic event raising over 13K for the braintrust. We’re already looking forward to supporting it again next year!

-MAYORS SERVICE OF THANKSGIVING-

It was our great pleasure to attend a service of thanksgiving to mark the end of Councillor John Rees’sterm as Royston Town Mayor. During his term, he has shown great interest in our cadets, always speaking to them at community events, attending our annual awards evening and facilitating a parade of over 250 cadets in Royston for ATC Sunday.
Whilst there were many other colleagues, community organisations and business owners present, we were especially pleased to be able to show our gratitude to him and to let him know he remains a good friend of the squadron.
