🐾 Fire Investigation Dog Loki has been named a finalist in the UK Service Dogs Awards 2026.👏
🏅Shortlisted for the Emergency Services Dog Medal of Honour, Loki is one of only 14 dogs in the country specially trained to detect ignitable liquids
🔥Loki has supported more than 300 fire investigations during his career, helping investigators uncover crucial evidence and support prosecutions
❤️We're incredibly proud of Loki and his handler Nikki Harvey for this well-deserved recognition and wish them the very best of luck at the awards in October

A huge thank you to Hertfordshire's farming community for their support during several recent field fires.

Local farmers have provided vital water supplies to help our crews tackle incidents more effectively, demonstrating the value of our close collaboration with the National Farmers Union (NFU).

Since our partnership with the NFU began in 2022, it has continued to evolve and strengthen. As well as receiving support during emergencies, we're able to work with farmers to share advice on rural fire safety, wildfire prevention and animal rescues, helping to make our rural communities safer and more resilient.

Strong partnerships, shared expertise and a commitment to protecting Hertfordshire continue to make this collaboration a real success.

🚨With the hot and dry weather continuing, we are seeing an increase in fires in the open across Hertfordshire.

We’re asking everyone to help reduce the risk of grass and field fires by:

❌ Avoiding lighting open fires in the countryside and disposing of smoking materials safely.

❌ Only using barbecues where permitted - they should never be placed directly on dry grass. Make sure they are out and allowed to cool before disposal.

❌ Taking your litter home, particularly glass bottles, which can increase the risk of fire in dry conditions.

📞If you see a fire, move to a place of safety and call 999 immediately.

🚒 Early reporting helps us respond quickly and prevent fires from spreading further.

🔥 If you see a fire being deliberately started, report it to the police or contact FireStoppers anonymously on 0800 169 5558.

Women’s Firefighter Try it Out Event – Tuesday 30 June
Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue Service is inviting women from the local community to attend a Women’s Try It Out Event at Hitchin Fire Station on Tuesday 30 June, 6.30-8.30pm.
This informal and supportive session is designed to give you a hands-on insight into the physical elements of the role and the opportunity to ask questions about becoming a firefighter.
