Part of the Wildlife Trust BCN, this page focuses on the Wildlife Trust's activities in Northamptonshire, including community engagement and conservation.

Currently, our community engagement is mainly focused in the Nene Wetlands and at Summer Leys. Previously concerned solely with the Nene Wetlands Nature Reserve, this page now covers the whole of Northamptonshire to reflect the expansion of our community engagement activities to include a new visitor centre at Summer Leys Nature Reserve. The Wildlife Trust BCN is a charity that manages over 100 na

ture reserves across Beds, Cambs and Northants. We are part of a national movement of Wildlife Trusts of which Sir David Attenborough is President Emeritus. We work locally in Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire and we have a big mission - we want to stop nature's decline. It is no secret that nature is in trouble. Wildlife is disappearing at an alarming rate - some are calling it the next mass extinction - and the threat of climate catastrophe is a constant worry. We live in a time of emergency. But there is still hope - we can tackle both of these critical issues - but we need to scale up and act now. Together, with the movement of Wildlife Trusts, we want at least 30% of our land and sea to be connected and protected for nature’s recovery by 2030. Making more space for nature to become abundant once again will give our struggling wildlife the chance to recover and also restore beautiful wild places - places that store carbon and help to tackle the climate crisis. Calling all photographers - entries for our photography completion are now open!🗣️📸

📸‘Nature of the Nene Valley’ is a photography exhibition celebrating this special landscape through the eyes of the people who know it best.

📸We're inviting photographers of all ages and abilities to submit their best shots of the valley and its wildlife.

📸Successful entrants will be exhibited at our exclusive event, and featured in our 2027 Nene Valley calendar.

Wildlife Wednesdays are back!! 🐦

🐦 The hobby is a small falcon - smaller than a kestrel
🐦 As you can tell from the photo, their favourite snacks are dragonflies!

Hi all - we're very sorry but we have had to close the Summer Leys centre today and tomorrow due to staff shortages. We'll be back open on Sunday!

Our Nene Wetlands centre is open as normal all weekend and we have our lavender drop in session on today, so do pop by to see us!

Our popular bat walks start next week 🦇

The Summer Leys walks are now sold out but we still have spaces available on the Nene Wetlands Walk next Friday (28th)!

Join us for a night walk around Skew Bridge Lake (also known as 'Bat Alley'), when staff and volunteers will be on hand to explain more about these amazing animals and show you how to use a bat detector (provided) to listen to the bat's echolocation calls and identify the species present 🦇
