We'll be at Rushden Lakes both today and tomorrow (April 9) from 11am-3pm. Come and say hello!

If you were planning on enjoying the nice weather today, why not pop along to Rushden Lakes and say hello to our firefighters.

Our crew from Rushden Fire Station will be joined by our Prevention Team and community outreach volunteers in the car park from 11am to 3pm.

They will be there to show you all around the fire engine, giving out fire and water safety advice and offering free Home Fire Safety Visits for people in the local area.

And the good news is, if you cannot make it today, they will be there tomorrow (April 9) from 11am-3pm again!

📢Recruiting on-call firefighters!

UPDATE (January 26, 2026)

Unfortunately we have had to take the decision to close our recruitment campaign for on-call firefighters. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused you.

ORIGINAL POST:

🔥 We’re recruiting On‑Call Firefighters! 🔥

Looking for a role that’s rewarding, flexible, and makes a real difference in your community? Join Northamptonshire Fire & Rescue Service as an on‑call firefighter.
As a member of our on‑call crew you could be from any walk of life — teachers, mechanics, gardeners, parents, business owners and more. No previous experience is needed; we’ll provide full training. What matters most is enthusiasm, a good level of fitness, and the ability to reach your local fire station within 8 minutes when your pager sounds.

As an on‑call firefighter, you’ll not just deal with fires and will respond to a variety of incidents and activities including:
🚒 Attending road collisions
🏊‍♂️ Water rescues
💧 Assist at floods
🐾 Rescue animals
🗣 Share safety advice at community events

We are a welcoming, inclusive Service and particularly keen to hear from people available during the day or those with flexible work or family commitments.

Interested? Ready to make a difference?
📅 Apply by 12 February 2026

Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service is asking people to follow advice and have fun safely during the Halloween and Bonfire Night period.

We would always recommend only attending organised firework and bonfire displays but urge members of the public that are planning on holding their own display to do so safely to avoid causing fires and injuries.

Darren Carson, Prevention Team Leader at Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “While the number of fires we attend during this period is reducing year by year, we still want to urge people to follow safety advice to keep themselves, their families and their homes safe.

“It is a fun time of year and we want people to enjoy fireworks and bonfires, but we really encourage members of the public to only go to an official display and avoid having them in back gardens.

“If you do have your own display or bonfire and it gets out of control, or you see any unattended fires, please always call 999 and ask for the Fire Service.”

Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service was called shortly after 8:45am this morning (October 16) to reports of a gas leak and alarm sounding at a business premises on Crown Way in Rushden.

On arrival of crews from Rushden Fire Station and Wellingborough Fire Station, the building and a neighbouring business had already been evacuated.

Crews used a monitor to check the gas levels, which were reading as normal.

After an investigation the crews determined that the alarm was caused by a fault on a boiler, which they then isolated.

Both crews have now returned to their stations.
