Four Masters swimmers from Ryde Swimming Club travelled to Fleet over the weekend to compete in the Hampshire Masters County Championships at the Hart Leisure Centre. Swimming against competitors from over 20 clubs, including the formidable teams of Portsmouth, Southampton , Basingstoke and Wi******er, the swimmers came home with a very impressive haul of medals.

Competing for the first time in the County champs, Sev Mouletin , in the 50 -54 age group just missed a medal in the 100m Individual Medley, but made up for that swimming strongly in her 50m butterfly to win an impressive bronze. Sev achieved personal best times on both events and is going from strength to strength.

Imogen Sussmes, in the 30 -34 age group swam superbly to win silver in the 50m backstroke and silver in the very tough 50m butterfly, having decided not to swim her favourite 100m butterfly this year.

Matthew Sussmes managed to win three golds in a closely fought age group, 60-64 , on the 50m backstroke, 50m freestyle and 100m backstroke and the experienced and unstoppable Jenny Ball competing in the 85-90 age group won an impressive 5 gold medals in the 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle and 50m and 100m backstroke , managing to stay close to her recent times on the 50m freestyle.

The club has flown the flag for Ryde at this annual event for many years and, despite many other swimmers being unable to join this year, always wins an impressive medal haul. Sights are focused on the European Masters in Budapest for 2027, so competitions like these are good practice and ensure the club goes from strength to strength.
