It's day 1 of 30 Days Wild! 🐝

Our Youth Rangers at Rye Harbour Nature Reserve have been using dead wood logs to create a habitat pile.

Using old, dead logs creates an inviting home and feeding ground for insects, reptiles and bees. Birds feed on insects that make their home in old wood, increasing the biodiversity of the area.

This also helps create a habitat location for our reptile surveying.

Last week our beach clean volunteers did a quick litter pick in Rye Harbour village car park 🚮

They were amazed to collect so many bags of litter in only thirty minutes.

Please remember to take your litter home with you when visiting the nature reserve or use the bins provided inside the Discovery Centre café, and we will make sure it gets properly recycled.

✏️ Art Workshop: 'Inspired by Nature' with Cy Baker at Rye Harbour – Wednesday 15 July & Sunday 19 July ✏️

Don't miss this chance to find your artistic inspiration and creative voice in the wonder of Rye Harbour Nature Reserve with award-winning wildlife artist Cy Baker, known for his ballpoint pen-drawn pieces.

In this day-long workshop on Wednesday 15 July, and follow-up session on Sunday morning 19 July, Cy will guide you to find inspiration for that next great artwork and turn that inspiration into reality. This event is part of Cy’s collaboration with Sussex Wildlife Trust to fundraise for our work to protect nature.

With places limited to just ten, professional artist, Cy, will be on hand to provide you with one-to-one guidance & technical expertise tailored to your needs. The aim is for you to be full of inspiration to get started on your next piece. With its big skies, wild beauty and special wildlife, Rye Harbour is a truly atmospheric and inspirational place for artists.

All skill levels welcome. Basic materials, morning coffee/tea & biscuits are included in the price, with the Sunday morning follow-up session - a chance to get further advice from Cy.

Aimi, Arthur and Alice recently completed a Reptile Survey at Rye Harbour Nature Reserve 🦎

The survey site is mainly being monitored by our Youth Rangers and Young People completing their Duke of Edinburgh awards as part of our Youth Action offer. This was a chance for staff to learn the survey site and process.

We will be monitoring reptiles on the site through numerous surveys completed between now and October as part of the National Reptile Survey run by Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Trust.
