Did you know?

In 1895, writer Henry James fled from London following the failure of his play 'Guy Domville'.

He stumbled across Lamb House and later took out a 21 year lease on the property.

Henry James grew attached to Lamb House and wrote his most acclaimed novels here: The Wings of the Dove, The Ambassadors and The Golden Bowl.

Introducing our brand new pin badge here at Lamb House! ✍️

Inspired by the Re*****on typewriter used by Henry James, this new pin badge celebrates the tool behind his later works.

From 1897, James dictated his novels to an amanuensis, insisting on Re*****on typewriters for their distinctive sound, which he believed was essential to his creative process.

His first female amanuensis, Mary Weld, once said:
“Typewriting for him was exactly like accompanying a singer on the piano.”

Pick up the pin badge on your next visit to Lamb House!

This , we're celebrating the legacy of one of Lamb House’s former residents, Rumer Godden.

Best known for Black Narcissus, later adapted into an Oscar‑winning film, Godden lived at Lamb House from 1967 to 1974.

Alongside her novels, she also wrote poems, short stories, and children's fiction. It was at Lamb House in 1972 that she published The Diddakoi, the book that went on to win the first ever Whitbread Children’s Book Award.

Happy !

It’s no secret that Lamb House has inspired some of the 21st century’s greatest literary minds. Henry James, the Benson brothers (A.C. and E.F.), and Rumer Godden all called this beautiful Georgian house home, and wrote some of their most celebrated works within its walls.

Lamb House reopens to visitors on Monday 23 March.
