Screech Owl Sanctuary & Animal Park

Screech Owl Sanctuary & Animal Park This award-winning Sanctuary, in mid Cornwall, cares for 60 owls from all over the world plus 18 other species of animals.
(1166)

A wonderful family day out for all animal lovers that supports the Sanctuary’s education, conservation, and rehabilitation work. The Screech Owl Sanctuary was founded in 1990 and is situated in mid Cornwall on the edge of the Goss Moor nature reserve near Indian Queens. We hold one of the largest collection of owls in the south west with over 30 different species from all over the world. We deal

with all rescue and rehabilitation of sick and injured owls and birds of prey in the county and where possible return the owls to their former locations. We provide education to both adults and children and allow them the opportunity of close encounters with these beautiful and majestic birds. The Sanctuary has been involved in many conservation projects of endangered species and at certain times of the year visitors can see baby owls. On site we have several other animals including Emus, Meerkat, Alpacas, Pygmy Goats, Wallabies and Lemurs

Our owls provided the inspiration for the animated owl film The Legend of the Guardians. Please look at our website for daily activities, special events, admission prices, discount vouchers and opening times throughout the year.

It is national Insect week!
Why not get outdoors and see what critters you can find. This is the perfect time of year to start seeing lots of our butterfly and moth species so why not plant some butterfly-friendly plants in your back garden to encourage these beautiful insects into your garden for next year or put out a moth trap overnight to see which visitors you get under the cover of darkness? Take a look at the following example for ideas: https://butterfly-conservation.org/in-your-area/east-scotland-branch/budget-bucket-moth-trap

Happy Hatch Day to Captain Morgan!

Captain Morgan hatched here at the sanctuary 6 years ago today. Despite her eye defect, she is still full of character and loves to talk to keepers each morning as they go in to clean her aviary. Join us in wishing her the happiest of birthdays.

Happy Hatch Day Joe!
This handsome man is turning 17 today. He is still the cheeky teenager of the flying displays. In captivity, Eurasian Eagle Owls can reach up to the age of 50, so Joe still has potentially a couple of decades left of free flying with us here at the sanctuary.

Happy International Working With Animals Day! 🦉🦊🦝

There’s something truly special about observing animals in the wild, but building a bond with animals in our care is a privilege that never loses its magic. Every day, our dedicated team has the opportunity to work closely with the incredible residents of the sanctuary, getting to know their unique personalities, habits, and quirks. Just like people, no two animals are ever the same.

From playful meerkats and curious lemurs to our charismatic owls, foxes, and wallabies, each animal has its own story to tell. If you'd like to meet some of our amazing characters and learn more about them, why not book one of our unforgettable animal experiences?

To book, call us on 01726 860182.

Happy Hatch Day to this crazy pair!
Trelawney and Piper, the chaco owls, are turning 1 today and tomorrow. They are still as curious as ever and probably have the best head bob of any of our birds here at the sanctuary. Join us in celebrating all things Chaco.

Join us in giving a huge welcome to Pongy Paula, our newest member of our offsite and education team. She is only a few months old and full of beans. She will eventually be joining Stinky Pete and Mindy as an additional ferret companion and she looks forward to meeting you all once her training is complete.

It is National Best Friends Day!
What better way to celebrate than with our amazing birds and animals here at the sanctuary. All of our keepers have that special connection to an animal or bird here. This gorgeous bird is Wiggie. It also happens to be Wiggie's birthday today so please join us in wishing her a Happy Birthday in the comments. She is turning 11 years old and she is building some great relationships with our staff on the flying team, since joining us over Christmas. Just like any friendship, our flying birds put a lot of trust in our keepers, but our keepers also have an amazing amount of trust in all of our flying birds. We hope Wiggie continues to flourish as she gets used to her new flying spaces here at the sanctuary.

Sam and Pebble, our pair of little owls, who turned 9 and 8 years old.
Kaya, the boobook owl, who is still smashing her flying displays at the age of 16.
