Reform-Blackbrook

Reform-Blackbrook Your local councillors for Blackbrook Ward. News, updates, community information and local casework from Councillors Eileen Fleming, Nigel Brown and Vic Floyd.

Vic says, “Having retired in July, I enjoy spending time with my family, especially my grandchildren. One of my favourite pastimes is fishing, which I share with my grandson. My son and I are both service veterans, and as my son works with the British Legion, helping other veterans, I wanted to give something back as well. Therefore, having seen the damage the Labour Party has inflicted on this to

wn over the last thirty-plus years and talking with friends and the older community members, I decided it was time to act. I decided it was time for change in St Helens, and the only credible way to achieve this was with the Reform Party, starting with the Blackbrook Ward. December 12th is an important date for this community, so use your vote for Reform and make Blackbrook the first ward in the St Helens area to have a Reform Councillor working and acting on its behalf.”

🎖️ Armed Forces Day - Victoria Park, St Helens

What a privilege to attend Armed Forces Day in Victoria Park today. A special thank you to Mayor Steve Little for his words on the day, it was wonderful to see the Mayor marking this important occasion in such a fitting way.
It was also great to be there alongside my fellow councillors:
Cllr Nigel Brown, Cllr Michael Gibson, Cllr Mike Chesworth, Cllr John Pinnington, Cllr Jack Benyon, Cllr James Long, Cllr Mal Webster, and Cllr Sharron Roughley. A wonderful occasion to honour the incredible men and women who serve and have served our country, seeing veterans proudly wearing their medals, cadets standing tall, and the colour party lined up with their flags was genuinely moving. St Helens should be very proud. 🌹

We also had the pleasure of meeting the lovely couple behind the 69th Field Regiment Display, what dedicated people! They work incredibly hard teaching children about the Second World War, bringing history to life in a way that really matters. It was a joy to chat with them. Exactly the kind of community volunteers that make events like this so special. 👏

Find them on Facebook: 69th Field Regiment Display

Thank you to everyone who organised and took part, a brilliant day enjoyed by so many families in the sunshine. ☀️

On a different note, while we were there I couldn’t help but notice the state of the pond in Victoria Park. As the photos show, it’s become quite overgrown and the water is murky and neglected. This is a much loved space that families visit every day and it deserves better care.

I’ll be raising this with colleagues at the council. Our parks matter. 💚

This week was Men’s Health Week and it’s a cause that really matters to me personally as your Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care.

The statistics are stark, men are far less likely to visit their GP, far less likely to talk about how they’re feeling, and account for around three quarters of all suicides in the UK. That’s not acceptable and it’s something I want to see change here in St Helens.

Looking after your health isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s common sense. Whether that’s getting that niggling health issue checked out, talking to someone when things get tough, or just having an honest conversation with a mate over a cuppa.

If you’re a man in Blackbrook or know someone who needs a nudge please reach out to your GP, or contact St Helens Mind or the Samaritans on 116 123, free any time day or night.

As your councillor I’ll be pushing for men’s health to be taken seriously in how we plan and deliver services in St Helens. It won’t just be a one week conversation from me, this matters all year round.

As always if you want to talk to me about anything affecting you or your family in Blackbrook my door is always open.

💙 Men’s Mental Health - The Conversation Doesn’t Stop Here

Men’s Mental Health Awareness Week may have ended on 15th June, but for many men right here in Blackbrook, the struggle doesn’t have an end date.

If you or someone you know in our community is finding things tough, please don’t suffer in silence. Reaching out is a sign of strength, not weakness.

As your local councillor, my door is always open. Whether it’s pointing you in the right direction or just having a chat, you don’t have to face things alone.

🌿 Longridge Avenue — Let’s Get This Sorted!

I’ve been made aware of the condition of the land behind the shops on Longridge Avenue, and I wanted to share these photos so residents can see what we’re dealing with.

Because this area is gated and only accessed for bin collections, rubbish has gradually built up over time, and unfortunately we now have reports of vermin in the area too.

I want to reassure residents that this has already been logged with St Helens Council and I’ll be following it up to make sure it gets the attention it deserves. It’s not a reflection on our community, it’s a result of an area that simply hasn’t had the oversight it needs.

If you’ve noticed anything similar in the ward, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Together we can make Blackbrook a cleaner, safer and more pleasant place to live. 😊

Thank you to the residents who brought this to our attention, this is exactly why it’s so important that we all look out for each other. 🙏

🚧 ROAD WORKS NOTICE – Clipsley Lane / Vicarage Road / West End Road 🚧

Residents and motorists in the area are advised that carriageway resurfacing works are planned for Sunday 21st June 2026, between 8am and 5pm.

The roundabout at the junction of Clipsley Lane, Vicarage Road and West End Road will be closed to through traffic during the works.

Please make sure vehicles are not parked on the road during those hours. Access to properties will be managed by the contractor and restored as sections are completed.

The works are being carried out as part of St Helens Council’s 2026/27 Highway Maintenance Programme — great to see investment in our local roads! 🛣️

Today marks the 82nd anniversary of D-Day.

On 6 June 1944, thousands of brave servicemen crossed the English Channel and landed on the beaches of Normandy, beginning the liberation of Europe from N**i occupation.

Many never returned home. Their courage, sacrifice and determination helped secure the freedoms we enjoy today.

As we remember those who fought, those who fell, and the families who endured so much, we also remember our duty to ensure their sacrifice is never forgotten.

We owe them a debt that can never truly be repaid.

Lest We Forget.
