📚✨ Staff Pick for the National Year of Reading ✨📚

This week’s recommendation comes from Heather, Library Assistant at St Helens Library:

📖 By Any Other Name by Jodi Picoult

Heather says:
I listened to the audiobook on BorrowBox but we also have the hardback here at St Helens.
It's a timeslip novel that explores the similar barriers faced by two female playwrights - Emilia, who was mistress to the Lord Chamberlain in Elizabethan London, and her descendant, Melina, in present day Manhattan.
Very evocative descriptions and moving, particularly the suffering faced by Emilia throughout her life. It also poses the question of whether Shakespeare wrote the plays we attribute to him, or whether he commissioned at least some them from a woman who had travelled more widely and moved in court circles.
Fabulously lush cover art too!
