Please give a warm welcome to our 2 new recruits. Kyran (left) and Toby (Right) who both live and work in the town.

This evening they attended their 1st of 4 pre-training drill nights. Over the next few weeks/months they will be following a schedule of learning, including practical core skills and theory, at station and with the training department, as they prepare themselves for a 2 week 'Approved to Ride' course in September. When they have passed the course they will officially be "On the Run" as Firefighters in Development ready to serve their community.

We welcome them to the station and look forward to watching their progress and look forward to seeing them out on the pump on shouts later this year.

At 01.09am this morning the pagers sounded and firefighters made their way to St Ives community fire station. 1 appliance with a crew of 5 was dispatched to a multi agency incident involving St Ives Coastguard Rescue Team Penzance Coastguard Rescue Team St. Ives Community Fire Station Police and the South Western Ambulance service.

A casualty had fallen approx. 20ft from the main road above the railway carpark into deep vegetation.

A great example of multi agency working was on display as teams worked both from above, and below, to successfully rescue the casualty and bring them safely to the ground where they could be taken to hospital.

There was an on-site debrief between all involved before heading back home.

At 11:31am today the on-call firefighters from St Ives were paged. 1 crew of 5 firefighters were sent to a property in the town where a young boy had unfortunately got his arm stuck inside the side mechanism of a pull out sofa bed. Crews worked at dismantling the sofa bed with small tools and a bit of practical thinking, whilst keeping the boy as calm and pain free as possible. In the end all was well and the arm was freed from the mechanism and the sofa bed rebuilt.

Then later in the afternoon, at 13:19pm, the pagers sounded again and crew members made their way to St Ives community fire station. A member of public had called in a fire sighted in the distance towards Carbis Bay from the Balnoon/B3311 area. An appliance with a crew of 5 were dispatched to investigate. A thorough search of the Balnoon and Carbis Bay area was conducted in conjunction with speaking to the original caller. No fire was located or found and crews returned back to station.

The caller did the right thing by calling it in, especially as Cornwall is currently under a High to Very High wildfire risk.

If you find a fire in the countryside don’t attempt to tackle it, call 999 and ask for the fire service immediately. Pass as much information about the location as possible, use the app What 3 Words if you have it to pinpoint the exact spot.”

Don’t assume someone has already reported it.
