Thirteen years ago, I made St Ives my home. Today, I stand as an elected member of St Ives Town Council with immense pride and gratitude.
I may not be Cornish by heritage, but I am deeply committed to this town and everything it represents. Through my voluntary community roles and civic service, I have dedicated myself to supporting and strengthening the place that has given me so much.
Organising Feast Night and being part of the Scaleybacks of Hakeybay the St Ives Guise Guild is more than an event to me — it’s about keeping tradition alive, bringing people together, and celebrating the unique spirit of St Ives.
Belonging isn’t just about where you’re born. It’s about how you serve, how you show up, and how much you care. I care deeply about this town and I am proud to stand as part of its community.

What I Stand For and Hope to Address if Elected

I would like to see a new play area installed at Palemon Best for younger children.
The area around The Core, the orchard and the skatepark have all been updated and developed. It is about time the play park was modernised too.

I will support Ayr Field.
We cannot afford to lose another green space to yet more car parking.
Our roads and traffic systems are already under huge pressure.
We need to encourage the use of the Park and Ride, which is what it was built for, and we must preserve the Scouts Hut for the younger generation, just as it always has been.

I will push the Town Council to properly address the ongoing sewage issues and hold South West Water to account over the quality of our water and the pollution in our area.

I will push for more consultation on the current traffic plans for St Ives, the junction at Consols, Halsetown and the one-way system.
The safety and concerns of residents in Halsetown is something I will take seriously and I would like to see a full review.

I also want to see more transparency, including a breakdown of costs for major projects. When you see examples like the one million pounds spent on the Malakoff, I am genuinely left lost for words.

I will encourage the creation of a better situated youth club, somewhere within the community where young people are more likely to attend and feel welcome.

Housing is another huge issue.
We desperately need more social housing in St Ives.
This is something I care about deeply, having been homeless myself in the past.
I will offer support to anyone struggling with HomeChoice applications.
I have helped local families with this before and I am more than happy to do it again.

I am also keen to discourage any further encroachment of holiday lets and whole house air b n bs in our residential community areas.

I am opposed to the closure of our leisure centre and will stand firmly against any attempt to shut it down. I hope we can push Cornwall Council to step up and provide the investment it desperately needs.

A quick note to constituents:
Apologies to anyone who has not yet received an election leaflet. The weather has been awful for delivering my compostable leaflets and I am posting them all by hand.
A big thank you to Headland Printers in Penzance for producing my amazing 100 percent recycled paper leaflets.

And a heartfelt thank you to the local friends and their families who have been helping with my campaign, going door to door.

If you have any concerns, suggestions, or questions about local issues affecting you, please do email me.

I have lived on Penbeagle for the past 12 years.
I don't own a business or my own home.
I come from a working-class background and, like many in our community, I understand the real challenges people face.
I’m not affluent and im struggling with the cost of living now as everyone else is.

At times, I've been a recipient of the Community Food Share, and I’ve also been a volunteer and supporter of the Kevranna Club.
I volunteer at the Edward Hain Centre too, and have organised free art workshops for local families, helping bring creativity into our community.

I've supported the Community Orchard and The Core, and was proud to back the construction of the skate park at Palemon Best.
I stood alongside others at the protests against the Carbis Bay Hotel development, and fought to help keep our seas chemical-free at Gwithian.

I’ve been involved with the Decorative Lights Association in St Ives, against the building of the 80 bed hotel at Consols, went to the meetings to object to the premier inn and tried to help protect Treloyhan Woods when it came under threat back in 2014.

Supporting local heritage, culture and Cornish traditions is something close to my heart and something I have worked to help revive in St Ives

This town, and our wider community, means a lot to me,
I've also maintained and stocked the Penbeagle food shelves for nearly 2 years on my own, by kind donations from others.

Whether I’m elected on May 1st or not, I will continue to stand with and support the real issues that affect St Ives and our surrounding areas.
I will continue to work alongside local groups and local people who make this town the incredible place it is.

This is my home. And I’ll always do what I can to help protect and support it.

This is my first time standing for election to be a town councillor in my area.
No matter the result, whether I'm voted in or not, I want to show that anyone who feels passionate about making a difference can step forward and try.
I'd be more than happy to assist anyone who’s interested in the nomination process, and I’d love to encourage our younger generation to get involved too.

Halsetown is the only ward in St Ives that’s actually going to a vote.
In all the other surrounding wards, there weren’t enough candidates, so the seats were uncontested and those standing were automatically given a place on the town council.

This is something that can change in the future.
If more local people stand up for their area, it would trigger a vote and let residents have their say, as it should be.

As a kid in the late 70s and early 80s, I used to help my Nan and Mum canvassing, knocking on doors, handing out leaflets, when they would speak of my great-great-grandfather,
Will Crooks (1852-1921), who came from the workhouses of Poplar, East London.
He went on to become Mayor of Poplar in 1901 and later served as the MP for Woolwich from 1903.
His story has always been a reminder to me that no matter where you come from, with determination and heart, you can make a real difference.

If there’s one thing I’d love people to take away from this, it’s that you don’t have to be ‘a certain type of person’ to step forward.
Anyone can do it
