We were SO PLEASED yesterday to welcome the Reception class from St Buryan Primary School to the library! They did great listening to our stories; showed off their excellent colouring; played some awesome games and puzzles, and had all round fun!
And THEN we had the wonderful year 4/5 children from St Just Primary School Lunchtime Library Club who played chess; tried out some knitting; talked with us about the importance of our freedom to choose our own books, as well as reading and choosing some books to take out.

Phew šŸ˜…! What a fantastic day!

This Banned Books week weā€™re highlighting, and celebrating, our freedom to read. Not every book is for every reader, and thatā€™s ok! The important thing is our freedom to make our own choices about what, who, when and how we read.
I was really keen to take part in Cornwall Libraries promotion for Banned Books week because itā€™s not just in other countries that we see books being challenged, censored and yes, banned - in UK schools there is increasing censorship and removal of books from library shelves and itā€™s so important that library services take a stand against the censorship of reading choices.
Our current book display, which will be up for the rest of the month, has a variety of titles which have faced challenge and censorship over the years. You might be surprised about what you see there!
Check out posts from Penzance Library for some enlightening information on this subjectā€¦

My eldest and I, along with a team of friends, are undertaking the Surfers Against Sewage October Dip a Day! Itā€™s going to be quite a logistics challenge around school, work, activities and tides, never mind the water temperature šŸ¤Ŗ. If anyone would like to sponsor us we hope you agree that itā€™s an important cause to support: https://surfers-against-sewage.sync.giving/fr/cr-r0ojv8znd6xwx

And it youā€™d like to join us for a dip weā€™d love some company! šŸŠā€ā™€ļøšŸŠšŸŠšŸæā€ā™‚ļø

Sorry everyone weā€™re a bit busy at the momentā€¦Weā€™re trying out one of our new ā€˜Reading with Friendsā€™ sets šŸ˜‰šŸ“–: 4 books of the same title to share and read with your mates!
Weā€™ve got a couple of sets at St Just Library but there are loads more that you can reserve and pick up. Search for ā€˜reading with friends bundleā€™ on the library catalogue https://prism.librarymanagementcloud.co.uk/cornwall/ , or come in a speak to a member of the library staff (if you can get their attention away from the book!).

It was lovely to support Butterfly Literacy CIC reading aloud session at St Buryan Primary School on Monday. Great to let people know about all the ways the library can support reading at home, including free audiobooks on BorrowBox and loads of comics and graphic novels on Comics Plus!

Welcome all our new library members!
