To my friends, neighbours and everyone in The Quays,

Now that the dust has settled, I’ve finally had a moment to reflect.

Election campaigns are gruelling. They demand everything from you — your time, your energy, and often your emotions too.

But despite the result, one thing I know for certain is this:

Can I look myself in the mirror and say we left The Quays in a better place than we found it? Absolutely yes.

Since January 2024, it has been the honour of my life to represent the place I call home. Together, we’ve fought for our community, stood up for residents, and worked hard to make The Quays a better place for everyone.

On election night, I congratulated our new councillor on her victory, and I sincerely hope she can continue the good work happening in The Quays.

What comes next? Honestly, I don’t know yet. I’ll speak with Cllr Jonathan Moore and our wider team, and we’ll go from there. But whatever happens next, I will always care deeply about this community.

I also want to thank Jonathan for being not just a fantastic colleague, but a genuine friend throughout this journey.

But most importantly, thank you — the people of The Quays. Many of you started as residents I represented, and became neighbours, friends, and fellow community activists along the way.

The outpouring of Facebook comments, messages, emails and WhatsApps over the last few days has meant more to me than I can properly put into words. I will never forget the kindness, support and encouragement you’ve shown me.

Public office is never forever, but community is.

Thank you for everything,

Paul

🌟 Last weekend’s Clean Up Salford Quays was another incredible success! 🌟

👥 Over 30 amazing volunteers
🗑️ Nearly 70 bags of rubbish collected
📍 Across a huge stretch of our community

This time, we covered an enormous area — all of:
➡️ Trafford Road
➡️ AO Academy
➡️ Salford Quays tram stop and surrounds
➡️ Exchange Quay
➡️ Ordsall Park
➡️ Montford Park

A huge thank you to the fantastic groups who supported us on the day — Clean Up Salford, Salford Hongkongers CIC, and Human Appeal 🙌💛

What’s especially encouraging is what this says about progress. When we first started, just one or two of these locations would have taken the entire session due to the volume of litter.

Thank you to everyone who continues to show up and take pride in our area — it truly makes a difference 👏

Save Our Walkways 🚶‍♂️🌿

Three years ago, we launched our campaign to save the River Irwell towpath — from Exchange Quay to the city centre.

Since then, we’ve delivered real improvements along the route:

✅ Blockages removed
✅ Trolleys cleared
✅ Countless litter picks
✅ Dangerous hogweed removed
✅ Railings, benches and footpaths cleaned, repaired and tidied
✅ Trees, bushes, weeds and grass cut back
✅ Section 106 funding secured and reinvested into the towpath
✅ Developers pushed to integrate with the route, including Soapworks
✅ 33 lights restored from Capital Central to Dock 5
✅ Swan nesting sites cleaned up to support wildlife 🦢

Over 100 residents signed our petition (correction: previously stated as 200) — thank you to everyone who backed the campaign.

Because of the work we’ve delivered through this campaign, I’ve also been asked to sit on the Irwell River Park Movement Board — as the only non-administration councillor — helping shape future plans for walking and cycling routes along the river.

We’re not stopping until the towpath is the best it can be.

Following the recent Barton and Winton By-Election results, one of the things we could not help but notice across our social media platforms was the amount of people claiming to have been apparently unaware that there was a separate election taking place from the upcoming local elections or that the...

We don’t just represent The Quays — we live here. 🏡

All year round, we’re out in the community running surgeries: political, police, Hong Kong support, and street surgeries — all organised by us, because being accessible isn’t a slogan, it’s a responsibility. 📍👥

You’ll see us on your streets, at your events, listening and acting. That’s what local representation should look like. 🚶‍♂️

- Jonathan chairs Salford Quays Community.
- Paul chairs Clean Up Salford Quays. 🧹

We’re embedded here because this is our home — we care about every street, every resident, every issue.

Because if you don’t live here, if you’re not present… how can you truly understand or fight for this community?

❗Our “invisible” Labour councillor lives miles away — and is rarely seen in the area. ❌

So how can they make a difference if they’re not here? 🤔

Local. Accessible. Present. 🔶

A call has gone out for volunteers to help bring one of Salford’s biggest summer events back to life this June. “We Invented The Weekend” will return to MediaCity and Salford Quays on 6 and 7 June 2026, and organisers are now looking for local people to get involved and be part of the action.
