Official update from this morning’s incident we attended.

Following Cleveland Fire Brigade’s attendance at a house fire on Birchington Avenue, Grangetown, this morning (Wednesday 26 August), we can confirm that the fire has now been extinguished.

Six fire appliances from Grangetown, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Saltburn attended the incident, along with the Incident Command Unit. One appliance remains at the scene on protective standby.

We can confirm that six people were inside the property at the time of the fire. Tragically, two people have died. One person remains in a critical condition, while three others are receiving treatment.

The circumstances surrounding this tragic incident will now be jointly investigated by Cleveland Police and Cleveland Fire Brigade’s fire investigation officers.

It is with great sadness that we share this update. Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of everyone affected at this incredibly difficult time.

🔥 PRACTICING FOR THE 9/11 MEMORIAL STEP CLIMB 🔥

We’re taking on a serious challenge in support of The Fire Fighters Charity! 👨‍🚒

📍 Steps next to Saltburn Cliff Lift
🪜 169 steps × 26 climbs

The crew will ascend and descend the steps 26 times — equivalent to climbing the number of steps associated with the Twin Towers challenge.

those taking part will complete the challenge wearing full fire kit, a Breathing Apparatus Set, and carrying hose.

Every donation will go directly towards The Fire Fighters Charity, helping support firefighters and their families when they need it most.

Cleveland Fire Brigade is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life following an incident on the A66 in the early hours of this morning.

Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the families, friends and loved ones of those who have lost their lives. We also extend our deepest sympathies to our colleagues at Cleveland Police as they mourn the loss of two serving officers.

This is a devastating incident that will be felt across our communities and by all of the emergency services involved.

Historic Huntcliff Rescue 🐕

In August 1980, Saltburn Community Fire Station was called to an incident at Huntcliff, Saltburn, where a dog had become stranded on the cliffs.

Leading Firefighter Murray bravely carried out the rescue while attached to a safety line, bringing the dog safely back to the top.

🌳 Do you live near open spaces? A few simple steps can help reduce the risk.

With prolonged dry weather, grass and vegetation can become extremely dry, meaning outdoor fires can spread quickly. If you live near grassland, fields, woodland or other open spaces, there are a few simple things you can do to help:

🔥 Avoid BBQs, fires and other naked flames on or near dry grass.

🚬 Always dispose of ci******es and matches safely.

🗑️ Take litter home with you, particularly glass bottles.

🏡 Keep your own garden tidy and clear away dry or dead vegetation where you can.

👀 If you spot a fire, move to a safe place and call 999 - don't assume someone else has already reported it.
Most wildfires are preventable, and small actions can make a big difference in helping to protect our open spaces and the communities around them.

🔥 Close Call 🚒

Yesterday, we responded to a fire at an allotment. On arrival, we found an unattended bonfire that had spread into the surrounding undergrowth. 🌿

On investigation, we discovered that the bonfire had been burning for a couple of days. Due to the warm and dry weather ☀️, it had gradually spread, creating a potentially serious situation.

This is a reminder that fires can remain dangerous long after they appear to have gone out.

🚫 Never leave a bonfire unattended.
💧 Always make sure it is completely extinguished before leaving the area.

What may seem like a harmless bonfire can quickly become a serious fire. Stay safe. 🚒

Please follow the up to date advice on controlled burning during this on going heatwave.

To ensure it was fully extinguished we used two full tanks of water from the fire appliance.

We attended 6 incidents yesterday. many were dealing with deliberate fires in woodland area's and farmer's fields.

Total duration of time spent on these Incidents was around 8/9 Hours

As well as responding to incidents and serving their local communities as On-Call firefighters, Charles and James are helping us give you a closer look at life at our On-Call stations. From training and incidents to community events and everything that goes on behind the scenes! 🚒

Yesterday's Drill Period involved completing initial training for our new firefighters who joined us a few months ago on becoming an combined aerial rescue pump operator.

Over the coming months they will complete several training sessions.

It’s been a busy weekend so far, with our crews supporting colleagues at incidents where additional resources were required to safely resolve the situation.

🚨 INCIDENT 1 – Grass Fire

🚒 Crew: 2 personnel responded in M4 (off-road vehicle + water bowser)
📌 Location: Eston Hills
⏳ Duration: Approximately 3 hours

🚨 INCIDENT 2 – House Fire

🕦 Time of Call: 05:26
📝 Type of Incident: House fire involving the roof
🚒 Crew: 4 personnel responded in M1 (fire appliance), supporting Yarm On-Call and Thornaby Wholetime crews
📌 Location: Yarm area
⏳ Duration: Approximately 4 hours

🚨 INCIDENT 3 – Woodland Fire

🕦 Time of Call: 10:10
📝 Type of Incident: Deep-seated woodland fire including a vehicle
🚒 Crew: M1 (fire appliance) & M4 (off-road vehicle + water bowser), supporting the Loftus On-Call crew
📌 Location: Loftus area
⏳ Duration: Approximately 3 hours
