Tunnel House

Tunnel House Historic House and local landmark which used to once belong to Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

The Tunnel House was built in 1744, probably for the Reverend Haviland John Hiley, Rector of Saltford between 1712 and 1754. In 1836 is was bought by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the famous engineer who built the Great Western Railway. Brunel built Saltford Tunnel directly under the house and it still carries the GWR mainline railway today, hence the name. The house has since been the residence of a n

umber of characters, used for offices and has been run as a guest house and small hotel. Jon and Helen Godfrey brought the house in September 2006 to convert it back to a family home and to restore it.

It’s been here since 1744 and it’s still here.

Tunnel House has been around since 1744 but Facebook who haven been around since 2010 consider Tunnel House inactive. Strange that.
