🌿 Scything Course at Hassall Green - Day 2 🌿

Day 2 of our Scything Course at Hassall Green saw participants progress to the important skill of peening their scythe blades.

Peening is the process of carefully hammering and thinning the cutting edge of the blade to keep it sharp and efficient. This traditional technique helps create a finer edge, making scything easier, reducing effort, and ensuring a cleaner cut when managing grassland habitats. Under expert guidance, attendees learned how to assess the condition of their blades, use specialist peening equipment, and develop the patience and precision needed to maintain this valuable conservation tool. A big thank you to all who attended and contributed to another successful day at Hassall Green.

🌿🚻 A New Addition at Hassall Green!

We're delighted to announce that Hassall Green now has a fully functional compost toilet, making the site even more welcoming and accessible for visitors.

Compost toilets offer a sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional facilities. They use little to no water, reduce waste, and help minimise the environmental impact on this beautiful natural space. This makes them particularly well suited to woodland and conservation sites where protecting the surrounding environment is a priority.

Be sure to check it out next time you're on site, please feel free to ask Green Angels staff how to use it if unsure!

🌿🫐 An early berry season at the Country Park! 🫐🌿

You may have noticed that the berries are appearing a little earlier than usual this year. The warm weather we’ve been enjoying has helped nature get ahead of schedule! ☀️

It’s fantastic news for our local wildlife, with birds, insects and other creatures making the most of this plentiful natural food source. 🐦🐝🦔

Next time you’re out exploring the Country Park, keep an eye out for the colourful berries and the wildlife enjoying them. 🌳💚

🌡️🔥 HOT WEATHER WARNING – HASSALL GREEN NATURE RESERVE 🔥🌡️

As temperatures rise, we’re asking everyone visiting Hassall Green Nature Reserve to take extra care.

🚫 NO BBQs under any circumstances. Hot, dry vegetation is highly vulnerable to fire. A single spark, ember or discarded hot coal can start a wildfire and cause serious damage to wildlife and habitats.

🔥 If you see a fire, do not approach it. Ring 999 immediately and provide your location to the emergency services.

🌊 NO SWIMMING in any water at our country parks or nature reserves. The water may contain hidden dangers, including deep mud, submerged objects, unstable banks and sudden changes in depth. Cold-water shock is also a serious risk.

☀️ Stay hydrated, take regular breaks and find shade during the hottest part of the day.

No BBQs. No swimming. If you see a fire, call 999.

Thank you for helping protect Hassall Green Nature Reserve and its wildlife. 🌿❤️

🚫 Reminder to All Visitors 🚫

Please remember that BBQs and open fires are not permitted anywhere on the site.

With the hot and dry weather we've been experiencing, even a small fire can spread rapidly and put people, wildlife, and the surrounding area at serious risk.

If you see a fire or notice any signs of one, please call the emergency services immediately and report it as soon as it is safe to do so.

Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe and protect our beautiful surroundings. 🌿🔥

☀️ Hot Weather Warning – Stay Safe in Our Country Parks 🌳

With the hot weather continuing, we’re asking everyone visiting our country parks to take extra care.

💧 Please make sure you bring plenty of water to drink and stay hydrated, especially if you’re planning a longer walk.

🚫 Please do not enter any lakes, ponds, rivers or other water areas. The water may look inviting, but it can be dangerous due to hidden hazards and changing conditions.

🔥 No BBQs or fires are permitted in our country parks. Dry conditions can increase the risk of accidental fires, putting wildlife, habitats and visitors at risk.

If you’re heading outdoors, plan ahead, take breaks in the shade where possible, and look after yourself and others.

Thank you for helping us keep our parks safe and enjoyable for everyone. 🌿
