From 5th September, The Orchards at Sandringham open for Pick Your Own Apple season! The Orchards at Sandringham were started by King George VI in the 1930s and now fuel Sandringham Apple Juice.

There’s something quite special about choosing your apples straight from the tree, whether you’re stocking up for crumbles, pies and chutneys, or simply want a fun activity. Bring all the family, head into The Orchards and enjoy one of those simple autumn traditions that never gets old.

What happens when The King offers you a wheat field at Sandringham? 🌾

Our millinery graduate Emily, who was part of the first cohort of The CHANEL & The King’s Foundation Métiers d’Art Millinery Fellowship in Partnership with Le19M, has been finding out.

Emily specialises in the endangered heritage skill of straw hat plaiting, which used to be a backbone of the British hat industry. The special type of straw needed for this craft, Maris Widgeon, is extremely difficult to source. After speaking to His Majesty about this challenge at Highgrove in February 2024, The King set aside a field on the Sandringham Estate for Emily to grow the straw on.

Harvested this summer using heritage methods, the straw will be used to make a special collection of hats to be sold in aid of The King’s Foundation. Learn more about the project from Emily here, and keep an eye out for updates on this exciting project 👀

Here are just a few of the lovely pups we had the pleasure of meeting at Sandringham last month:

• Pearl, who comes from a litter of 15, her sister also won a rosette at Crufts this year!
• Pepper, whose nose is constantly stuck to the ground.
• Holly, who had just completed our yellow trail walk around the Royal Parkland.
• Doodles, who had a fantastic day out at the RHS Flower Show.
• Darcy, who was named Molly at birth, however the daughter in the family was already called Molly so the family opted for a name swap!

Thank you for bringing your wonderful dogs to Sandringham and sharing your adventures with us.
