🏹 Battle Abbey Trip 🏹

The Year 10 historians had great fun today exploring the remains is the monastery William the Conqueror built to apologise for all the death at the Battle of Hastings.

We spent some time looking at the remains of the Romanesque architecture and the importance of monasteries on everyday medieval lives. We also spent time looking at the battle field itself, considering William's preparations in picking the site and his changes of tactics throughout the gruelling day.

This trip will thoroughly help our Y10 historians with their Historic Environment question set by AQA when they sit their GCSEs next year.

Thank you so much to Mr Browning for organising such a wonderful event for our history students.

Huge congratulations to George Clarke, one of our students on being promoted to Sergeant Major, a prestigious rank in the Cadet forces! 🎉

This role reflects his commitment, leadership, and ability to guide and support fellow cadets. A keen enthusiast of fieldcraft, George has shown exceptional dedication throughout his journey.

With only four other Cadet Sergeant Majors across the county, this is a truly impressive accomplishment.

✨👩‍💻 Careers 👨‍🔬✨

Year 9 students had the opportunity to spend a day at Canterbury Christchurch University to learn more about higher education.

The day included an introduction to the opportunities available at university, an ethical debate and a tour of the facilities including the medical simulation suite and the prison cell, a part of the criminal justice course at CCCU.

The students were very engaged and participated extremely well with the university lead commenting, “You have been the best school group we have had in very long time” and a university ambassador quoting, “They have been a wonderful group. Their maturity and engagement has been better than the Year 12 tour days we have done recently.”

🇧🇪 Battlefields Trip 🇧🇪

Day 2 continued in the beautiful city of Ypres, with the sun finally breaking through before we visited the Brooding Soldier Memorial.
The evening began with a special moment at the Munchenhof Hotel, where Mr Sharples was presented with a cake to mark 20 years of leading battlefield visits – a fantastic achievement! 🎉

We then headed to the Menin Gate for the Last Post ceremony. A very proud moment as Riley, Amelia, Anastasia, and Seth laid a wreath on behalf of the school.

The group have been outstanding ambassadors throughout the trip, receiving so many positive comments from members of the public. We couldn’t be prouder of them all. 👏

🐯🐵Visit to Wingham Wildlife Park 🦒🐗

Our year 12 Social Sciences students visited Wingham Wildlife Park to collect data for an upcoming project.

From the moment we arrived, the students were impeccably behaved and inquisitive. They epitomised our school values of kindness and respect while gathering excellent data throughout the day.

After their hard work, they had the opportunity to explore the zoo and enjoy all that it had to offer.

A great day was had by all!

Day 1 - saw the group visit Vimy Ridge, where they learned about the bravery of the Canadian soldiers, explored the tunnels, and uncovered the secrets hidden beneath the surface.

This year, Eden paid a special tribute to his Great Grandfather, Jock, who fought in a battle near Vimy and shared his truly remarkable story.

Day 2 - began with a visit to Essex Farm, where Kanie read the famous poem “In Flanders Fields” — a moving moment that brought history to life for everyone.

🏊‍♀️Swimming Success 🏊‍♀️

We are delighted to share that Eva Porreca has qualified for a national swimming competition in Sheffield this summer. Eva has been competing since she was 8 years old, and qualifying for the national competition means racing against the fastest swimmers in the country!

“This is a tremendous achievement and we are very proud of Eva. It demonstrates just what can be done with hard work, ambition and dedication. It is an achievement which I hope will inspire other students to pursue their goals with the same relentless determination.”
