As temperatures continue to rise, please remember to stay safe in the heat. Drink plenty of water, take cool showers and wear sunscreen to protect yourself.

Please do not be tempted to swim in the River Ivel โ€” the water is extremely dangerous.

If you see someone struggling in the water, call 999 immediately and ask for the Fire Service if the incident involves rivers, lakes or reservoirs. Do not enter the water yourself while waiting for emergency services. Instead, encourage the person to float on their back and keep talking to them until help arrives.

A rescue throwline is available at the Mill Pond and could help in an emergency. Keep the casualty in sight so emergency crews can locate them as quickly as possible.

During this period, the A1 northbound and southbound will be closed on three occasions, the A421
eastbound will close on one occasion and the A1 northbound only will be closed on one occasion.

These closures are needed so that we can continue making progress on the new junction and associated
structures at Black Cat. For the safety of both road users and our workforce, temporary traffic management will need to be in place while these works are carried out. During the closures, weโ€™ll be completing:
โœ”๏ธ drainage works in the central reserve of the A1
โœ”๏ธ kerb installation beneath the western bridge at Black Cat junction

These improvements are vital to support the long-term upgrades planned for the junction, helping to
improve safety, reduce congestion, and create smoother journeys for all road users.

The referendum is the opportunity for Sandy residents to vote on whether Central Bedfordshire Council should consider the Neighbourhood Plan and its policies in any planning application relevant to Sandy.

The referendum is a Yes/No vote on the future of the Sandy Neighbourhood Plan. There may be individual items in the documents/policies that you do not agree with, however, you are voting for the overall content of the plan and how this would need to be considered by Central Bedfordshire Council when making planning decisions which effect Sandy and its future development.

The plan has been shaped over several years through collaboration between local residents and Town Councillors, with policies developed through public consultation with the people of Sandy. It serves as a guide to the future of Sandy.

This is an important opportunity to have your say. Please donโ€™t view the referendum as unimportant. A positive vote helps ensure that Sandy Town Council retains a valuable tool to work with and challenge Central Bedfordshire Council on planning decisions, helping to ensure that future developments reflect the wishes and interests of the Sandy community.
