Sandy Town Council works actively with & for local people in Sandy and Beeston, North East Bedfordshire. We aim to promote and enhance our distinctive community & to support the work of local organisations which contribute to the well-being of residents and visitors to our town. The Town Council regularly reviews its activities & looks for new opportunities to provide cost effective services to enhance the experience of living in Sandy. We work in partnership with other organisations to help them improve their local service delivery. Central Bedfordshire Council is also responsible for some local services in Sandy. You should contact them direct if you have concerns about bin collections, fly-tipping, potholes, parking and main highway streetlights. Following the great work recently carried out to replace the steps at The Pinnacle, it is extremely disappointing to report that they have already been damaged by motorbikes being ridden on them.

The damage has been reported to the police, and further repairs will come at an additional cost to the community. It is frustrating to see new improvements damaged so soon after work has been completed.

Sandy Town Council and the Ward Councillors are actively working to engage with Bedfordshire Police to address the ongoing concerns around motorbike activity in the area, including noise nuisance, anti-social behaviour and dangerous or inappropriate riding.

We need your help. If you witness motorbikes racing, causing a noise nuisance, damaging property or engaging in anti-social behaviour, please report each incident to Bedfordshire Police via 101 or online.

Reporting every incident helps build a clearer picture of the scale and frequency of the problem and provides valuable information to support ongoing discussions with the police.

Thank you to everyone who continues to report incidents and help us protect our local spaces. We want residents to be able to enjoy The Pinnacle safely, and we all have a part to play in looking after our community.

Sandy Town Council will be carrying out essential tree works at Sunderland Road Open Space today ๐“๐ฎ๐ž๐ฌ๐๐š๐ฒ ๐Ÿ”๐ญ๐ก ๐Ž๐œ๐ญ๐จ๐›๐ž๐ซ ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ”.

Following an independent arboricultural survey, five trees have been identified for removal due to their condition and the potential risk they pose to users of the open space and adjacent footpath.

The trees identified for removal include three dead trees and two trees showing significant dieback and poor foliage. The works are being undertaken in accordance with the arboricultural consultantโ€™s recommendations and within the specified timescale.

We appreciate that tree removal can be disappointing, particularly in our valued green spaces. However, the works are necessary to manage identified risks and maintain the safety of residents and visitors using the area.

Please take care around the work area today ๐“๐ฎ๐ž๐ฌ๐๐š๐ฒ ๐Ÿ”๐ญ๐ก ๐Ž๐œ๐ญ๐จ๐›๐ž๐ซ ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ” and follow any temporary signage or instructions from contractors.

Works are being carried out to upgrade the existing lighting on the A1 near Biggleswade South Roundabout.

National Highways has a target of upgrading 70% of the existing lamp-based luminaire road lighting asset to LED by March 2027. This supports the National Highway Net Zero Highways Plan to attain this target by 2027.

We plan to complete this work under lane 1 closures and ring management over 5 shifts starting from ๐Œ๐จ๐ง๐๐š๐ฒ ๐Ÿ“๐ญ๐ก ๐Ž๐œ๐ญ๐จ๐›๐ž๐ซ ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ”. We will work overnight between ๐Ÿ—๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐Ÿ“๐š๐ฆ, weather permitting.
