It is with great sadness that we have been informed of the passing of Mr Dick Wood - Légion d'Honneur.

Dick was a lifetime member of the Royal British Legion - Sandy and District Branch and a World War Two, D-Day veteran. Serving with His Majesties Royal Navy defending our country from the oppression in Europe during the 1939-1945 conflict.

Dick managed to reach the incredible age of 101 years old! This in itself is a phenomenal achievement.
Dick passed away yesterday Wednesday 4th March 2026 surrounded by his family.

I'm sure you will join us in passing on our condolences to his family.

Funeral details to follow.

Rest easy Dick, Dismissed.

On this day 81 years ago, Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest N**i concentration camp, was liberated. It is estimated that 1.1 million people lost their lives there, with many more millions killed in the Holocaust.

Today we join the nation in remembering all those who fell victim to such brutality, simply for being who they were.

Tonight at 8pm people across the nation will light candles and place them in their windows, in tribute to all those who lost their lives.

Our Statement in response to President Trump's comments:

The service and sacrifice of British personnel in Afghanistan cannot be called into question, and we condemn any comments that undermine their extraordinary contribution. 457 British personnel lost their lives in Afghanistan and thousands more and their families now live with the lifelong physical and mental impact from service in that conflict.

The dedication and sacrifices of the men and women in the British Armed Forces from the UK, Commonwealth, and beyond, to protect our freedoms and support our allies deserves our deep and ongoing respect and gratitude.

Our nation’s support for our Armed Forces is never in doubt. The Royal British Legion through our ongoing work to recognise, remember, and support the Armed Forces community, ensures that their unique contribution is not forgotten. This recognition is shared across communities, cultures, and faiths.

Well here's something a little different, did you know your local RBL Branch celebrates it's centenary this year!

Yes! Our Branch will be 100 years in service on the 12th March 2026!

To Commemorate this our Branch has applied for a centenary pennant which is attached to our standard.

Along with this when ordering our pennant from Newton Newton Flag & Banner Makers Limited they also sent us a birthday card to mark the occasion.

Thank you 😊
