Wild Minds recognises that every young person learns differently.
Where appropriate, sessions can be adapted to support individual learning needs. These opportunities are introduced naturally within activities, allowing young people to learn without the usual pressures that may be.

By combining adventure, creativity, discussion and practical skills, Wild Minds helps young people develop abilities that will benefit them throughout life.

When getting to know horses we need to know the basics.

Nutrition & Feeding Basics

Horses are trickfeeders designed to eat small amounts continuously throughout the day.

• Prioritize Forage: High-quality hay or pasture grass should make up the majority of your horse’s diet. As a rule of thumb, a horse should eat roughly 1.5% to 2% of its body weight in forage every day.

• Keep Fresh Water Accessible: A horse can drink anywhere from 25 to 50 litres of water a day. Always ensure they have access to clean, non-frozen water, and scrub out water buckets regularly to prevent algae and bacteria growth.

• Make Feed Changes Gradually: If you need to change your horse's grain or introduce them to a lush new pasture, do it over a period of 7 to 14 days. Sudden dietary changes can upset their sensitive digestive systems and cause colic.

Like us humans the diets and nutrients required or preferable will differ from one to the next and can often be determined by things like breed, current health or any other conditions or variables that could affect the diet.

Q: For any horse owners, carers or sharers.

What do your horses get for breakfast and why?

Wild Minds offers young people the opportunity to step outside the traditional classroom and experience learning in a way that is engaging, practical and empowering.

Our sessions combine outdoor experiences, personal development and life skills learning to support young people who may benefit from a different learning environment.

While we are surrounded by nature, Wild Minds is not a traditional forest school. The outdoor setting simply provides the space for young people to explore their strengths, develop confidence and build skills that support their future.
